USC Salkehatchie Baseball Teams Wins Series With Salem Community College 2-games to 1

The USC Salkehatchie Indians improved there over-all record to 10-7 with a win today over Salem Community College 10-6.

The Indians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Indians were to held to 3 and out only once in the contest.

Leading the Indians were, Carlito Santana (Santo Domingo, D. R.) with 3-hits, Cam Louis (Conway, SC) and Brian Parsons (Spartanburg, SC) each had 2-RBI'S.

Sophomore Dylan Hightower (Cayce, SC) got the win for the Indians on the mound.

The Indians now 10-7 over-all and 5-1 in Region X play will face Guilford Technical College on Saturday in a double-header, the first game is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

The Indians are 3-5 at home on the season and 7-2 on the road.

Indians win game 2 against Salem CC

The USC Salkehatchie Indians couldn't get their offense going in game one today against Salem Community College out of New Jersey but in game two, it seemed as though it was hit after hit for the Indians.

Thomas Nichols sophomore out of Rock Hill, SC notched his second win for the Indians.

The final score was USC Salkehatchie 8, Salem Community College 1.

Indians fall in game 1- against Surry Community College, NJ

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team lead by a score of 1-0 going into the fourth inning. It was then that Salem CC found a way to score 3 runs on 3-errors committed by the Indians.

The Indians would score one final run in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was too little, too late.

Indians finish weekend sweep against Blue Ridge on Sunday

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team was on FIRE this weekend against the Blue Ridge Community College Bears in Hendersonville, North Carolina as the Indians swept their four game series.

The Indians scored a total of 58-RUNS in the four game series, while giving up only 20-runs.

GAME 1:

On Sunday the Indians defeated the Bears in game 1 by a final score of 13-9, Freshman pitcher Griffin Spires (West Columbia, SC) got the win on the mound for the Indians.

The Indians lead 13-2 going into the bottom of the seventh (In a double-header-only seven innings are played).

The Bears would rally going in the bottom of the seventh, scoring 7-runs but it ended up being too little, too late.

The Indians would go on to win, 13-9.

GAME 2:

In game two left handed pitcher Braylon Emory (North Augusta, SC) earned the victory for the Indians. It was the Home-Run Indians at it again in game two, Tracey Asbill-1B (Leesville, SC) went yard, along with Carlito Santana-SS/2B (Santo Domingo, D.R.) and Branfry Arias-CF (La Romana, D.R.)

Branfry Arias CF-(Santo Domingo, D.R.) also hit for the cycle (Hitting for the cycle mean, he had a single, double, triple and home-run,though not necessarily in that order). I will be doing some research later this week to determine if this was the first time, it has been done in school history.

In the weekend series, the Indians went yard-(Home Runs) a total of 9 times ( I will also check and see if this is a weekend series school record)

Indians baseball underway in Hendersonville, NC

It is baseball time again in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The Indians had a huge offensive day against Blue Ridge Community College in their double-header match-up by hitting 6-home runs and outscoring Blue Ridge 28-10 in 12-innings, as the second game was called after 5-innings.

Today the Indians will look to improve on the 3-1 Region X mark by winning both games to improve to 5-1 in Region X.

It looked as though, I would be able to post the scores prior to leaving for my prior engagement but now, it looks as though it will be around 10 or 11 pm tonight before I will be able to update you on the scores.

Indians to face Blue Ridge CC again on Sunday (Double-Header) First pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team will be back in action from Hendersonville, North Carolina on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.

On Saturday the Indians hit 6-Home Runs in the two games played. It was quite the performance by the Indians offense, which had yet this season to hit it's stride.

With outstanding pitching and the offense hitting it's stride this early in the season, let's hope this was the break-out game the Indians needed to propel them to many more victories throughout the season.

I will try and update the blog as soon as I hear the results on Sunday. It may be a delay on reporting the game 2 score until late in the evening as I have a prior commitment at 5:00 pm tomorrow afternoon. I should be able to at least post the game one score as soon as it becomes available.

Indians Flex Power In Game Two Win Over Blue Ridge Community College

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team had a HUGE day against Blue Ridge Community College in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

In game two the Indians lit up the scoreboard with bomb after bomb, hitting 4 home-runs.

Jayvon Sanders-OF (Rembert, SC) was the man in game two going, 4 for 4 with 2-home-runs, 2-singles and 5-RBI's.

Bryan Parsons -C (Spartanburg, SC) was 2-4 with a home-run and 4-RBI's.

Freshman Dustin Pannel-IB hit a bomb to dead centerfield to finish the home-run barrage for the Indians.

Oliver Santos had another huge game, he went 2 for 3 with a double and 1-RBI.

Sophomore, Ali Williams (Sumter, SC) picked up the win for the Indians.

The Indians are now 6-6 over-all and 3-1 in Region X play.

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team has won game one of a scheduled double-header against Blue Ridge Community College (Hendersonville, NC).

RHP- Mark Henderson, a sophomore from North Charleston, South Carolina earned the win.

Oliver Santos-3B sophomore from Santo Damingo, D.R. was 3-3 with 2-Home-Runs, a double, 1 stolen base , 2-hit by pitch and 5-RBI's.

Congrats on such a great game by the Indians and Oliver Santos!

USC Salkehatchie Students and Athletic Programs Helping In Thier Community

For the first time in memory, Christ Central’s food bank shelves in Allendale are empty. This is a reflection of the increasing unemployment in the 4 county area. In order to help refill the shelves our students are placing boxes and signs at our baseball and softball games.
The collection will began February 28th, 2009 and continue through the middle of March.

If you can’t bring items to the games, pre-bagged bags will be available to purchase.

Indians Region X title hopes dashed against Region X Rival-Denmark Technical College FINAL 79-67

Denmark Technical College must feel like the third time is the charm. The USC Salkehatchie Indians had twice beaten the Panthers both at home and in Denmark, SC but after traveling over 4 hours away, the Panthers ended the Indians season in one game.


In the first three minutes, the Indians took an early lead 27-7 before either team had the chance to break a sweat. The Indians would go into the half with the lead but only by a small margin.





The score at half-time was USC Salkehatchie 37, Denmark Technical College 33.

After the half-many of you may have noticed we lost signal from Brunswick Community College, I apologize for this, it was due to a technical issue with the Brunswick Community College Internet service. If I had known we had lost service through their Internet service, I would normally use my phone to call in the game. In the new gym, it was impossible to get a cell signal and calling the game in was not an option.

The Indians would come out in the second half and again go on a 9-point run but it was at that point the Panthers decided to slow things down and spread out their offense.



They went to four corners and once they did, the Indians season was over. Justin Booker of the Panthers would sink 7- three pointers down the stretch to seal the Panthers victory.





"I am very disappointed in the way we played tonight. If you don't understand that this is a huge game, you deserve to lose, plain and simple. I know that it will sting for several days but we will bounce back, get on the recruiting trail and get ready for next season. I hate it for the sophomores that have worked hard to get to this point and for the freshman, they need to work hard and learn for tonight's mistakes. I want to thank everyone at USC Salkehatchie for all their support all season, it has meant a lot to me and the guys. I feel as USC Salkehatchie is a family and I have never felt that way at any other school in which I have been a part of, I know we can make something special here at USC Salkehatchie and you can bet that I will work harder than ever to make that happen," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

The host team Brunswick Community College was having a party tonight as they prepared for their first game ever on their campus.

The tournament which was held in the Brunswick Community College's new 54,000-square foot Athletic and Aquatic Center on campus in Supply, N.C. Since the program began 13 years ago, Brunswick C.C. has played its home games at local high schools in the county.

I must say that Brunswick Community College was a great host and on behalf of the USC Salkehatchie athletic department, we would like to thank them for their hospitality.

I am sorry that we don't have the actual final score at this time. The scoreboard at Brunswick Community College went out right before the end of the game, as they were experiencing technical difficulties all evening. The gym was just opened on Sunday as it had to be approved by the North Carolina inspectors. When I last looked at the score board, it looked as though the final was Denmark Technical College 79, USC Salkehatchie 67.





I will have the complete score tomorrow, once coach Garrett or myself can figure out the actual final score. I am embarrassed that we don't have the actual final score for you tonight and I can assure you that the Internet connect problems we experienced won't happen again and I hope you will listen to future broadcasts of USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians softball and USC Salkehatchie baseball, LIVE over the blog.

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians fell twice today against Region X foe, Florence Darlington Technical College. I was unable to attend the games but I did get the scores from Mrs. Marian Easterlin and I would like to thank her for keeping us updated. Region X annual basketball tournament banquet

The annual Region X pre-tournament basketball banquet was held tonight on the campus of Brunswick Community College. The banquet started with a delicious meal that consisted of chicken fingers, BBQ, green beans, slaw and numerous other items.

After the meal, Brunswick Community College President Dr. Stephen G. Greiner spoke to the eight teams in attendance, which included USC Salkehatchie. After speaking for several moments he introduced the tournament coordinator, Mrs. Asland Burke.

She introduced the guest speaker, Mike Capaccio former NJCAA coach and one of the most successful assistant coaches in NJCAA history. He was an assistant at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa back in the 90's, for several stints.

Indian Hills would go on to win three national titles under his guidance as interim head coach and an assistant.

He served 1 year as an interim head coach and 5 years as an assistant. He was a valuable member of the staff and a great recruiter,

He explained to the coaches and players on hand that he was able to accomplish this because he believed in education and made sure he players moved on to four-year institutions and graduated.

If you think Indian Hills was playing in a weak-region think again, their region won seven of twelve national titles in as many years.

After letting the crowd understand his accomplishments, he went on to explain that it wasn't by chance but because of hard work and commitment. It explained that to win like that at a small junior college it takes the support of faculty, staff, students and most of all the community in which the school is located. He said with out your communities support, it is almost impossible to be successful,

In the end, he told the student-athletes to take every moment in, to enjoy every play, every game and every moment of the Region X tournament. He explained to them about reaching Hutchinson, Kansas and how they would be playing in front of 8,000 fans and untold numbers of scouts.

"Once you arrive at the NJCAA championship, you are treated like royalty. You will be amazed at the crowds and the great time you will have once you arrive, the games will be like none you have ever played before," said coach Mike Capaccio.

He ended with several sports quotes and wished every team the best of luck.

After speaking, Dean Myrick the Athletic Director for Region X announced the All-Region teams, Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

USC Salkehatchie basketball team gets huge send-off in Walterboro,South Carolina

Indians basketball team has one practice under belt at Brunswick Community College's new arena

The USC Salkehatchie men's basketball program arrived in Brunswick, North Carolina around 1:00 pm this afternoon and by 1:30 they were on the court getting their allotted 45-minute practice in before the next team. The problem, they were expecting to get on the court at 2:00 pm. In a twist of fate because Spartanburg Methodist College was running late, USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett agreed to go early.

"I didn't think it would matter either way, we had to get a practice in. I would have rather known that we were going at 2:00 pm as planned but because we went early, it didn't hurt a thing. I am excited about getting started, we had a great 45-minute work-out and we are ready as we are going to get," said head coach Travis Garrett.

It is a one a done type tournament, so every game counts and coach Garrett wants to make that clear to his players, " I let them know that we came here for one thing and that is to win. If we leave with anything other than a Region X title, I will be let down as will every player on the team. We have a great group this year and I look for great things this weekend," coach Garrett added.


The Indians will take on Denmark Technical College tomorrow at the new arena with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 pm.

Game 2-Goes to extra innings but not Lady Indians way

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians were riding high after their game 1 win against Mercyhurst North East 9-2.

In game 2 as the temperature plummeted the Lady Indians went into the bottom of the 6th inning trailing 7-4.

The Lady Indians would rally back to tie the score 9-9 and send the game into extra-innings.

It would be in the top of the 11th inning that the Mercyhurst North East Saints would find a way to score two more runs and in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Indians bats ran out of gas.

The Lady Indians are now, 10-11 over-all and 2-0 in Region X.

Mercyhurst North East from North East, Pennsylvania has been on a traveling tour of the South, playing in Savannah, Georgia against Savannah College of Arts and Design and several other teams.

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians have won game one against Mercyhurst North East from Mercyhurst Pennsylvania .

The Lady Indians are underway against Mercyhurst North East, they are in the 2nd inning with the Lady Indians ahead 4-1.

Due to recent snow storm that swept through Georgia and much of South Carolina, Wednesday's March 4th game has been rescheduled

BASEBALL PRESS RELEASE:

USC Salkehatchie Head Coach Bubba Dorman has announced today that the March 4th game scheduled for 2:00 pm against Georgia Perimeter in Covington, Georgia has been canceled due to the recent snow storm that swept through Georgia and most of South Carolina.

The game has been rescheduled for April 8th at Georgia Perimeter in Covington, Georgia~first pitch will be at 3:00 pm.

I have had many texts and emails concerning classes for March 2nd 2009 at USC Salkehatchie~Information below

I have been asked by several players and a couple of parents concerning classes tomorrow at USC Salkehatchie and whether they have been cancelled for tomorrow, due to the prediction by the national weather service of ice and snow in our area. According to USC Salkehatchie academic dean Mrs. Jane Brewer, classes will meet as scheduled on March 2, 2009. If there is any change students will be notified by the Carolina alert system and students and parents can also tune into local radio and television stations for any information.

You can also access the main USC Salkehatchie academic website at http://uscsalkehatchie.sc.edu/ for any changes in class schedules.

We urge all students to take the time to sign-up for the Carolina alert system, if you sign up you will be notified of any changes that occur at USC Salkehatchie.

Region X Co-Champions preparing for Region X tournament

The 2008-2009 Region X co-Champions, USC Salkehatchie are working hard in preparation for the Region X tournament in Shallotte, North Carolina March 4-7. The Indians finished the regular season with a 14-14 over-all record and 9-4 in Region X play.

"We have been in the gym working hard and the guys are biting at the bit, ready and roaring to go. I know we have a tough road ahead of us and I explained to the guys, the regular season is over and now everyone is on an equal playing field. If you look at the past, teams that didn't do so well during the regular season, can get hot in tournament play and shock everyone. We start with Denmark Technical College and they scare me, they are a team that plays hard and really gets after you. In tournament play, all you can do is play your best and go from there," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

The Indians will face Denmark Technical College in round 1 of the Region X tournament on March 5th at 4 pm.

During the regular season, the Indians defeated the Panthers in both games by a combined score of 170-147.

USC Salkehatchie baseball double-header with Surry CC has beeen CANCELED

In a wild weekend for weather, the baseball team started with a 3 1/2 delay on Saturday as a band of showers moved through.

Today's games have been canceled because of the threat of snow in North and possibly South Carolina. The coaches have agreed to cancel the games since the visiting team Surry CC is from North Carolina and could have to travel in bad road conditions.

There is no word on when or if the games will be made up. It will be an interesting question to have answered since both teams are in Region X.
