Abba's Kitchen-USC Salkehatchie athletics Thanksgiving Challenge~

The USC Salkehatchie soccer, softball and baseball teams are competing to see which team can raise the most money to donate to Abba’s Kitchen to help buy Thanksgiving dinners for needy individuals in the surrounding communities. If you are asked by a player to help with this endeavor, we hope you will support this cause~!

USC Salkehatchie SGA to host blood drive on Allendale Campus October 20th

The USC Salkehatchie SGA is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday October 20th from 11 am to 4 pm in the Atrium on the USC Salkehatchie west campus in Allendale, South Carolina. They want to encourage everyone to come out and donate, if you can. The goal this year that the SGA and the Red Cross has put in place is 35 donors. If you would like to sign up for a time you can go to donatebloodtoday.org and enter USC Salkehatchie for the sponsor code. Everyone who donates will get a free T-Shirt. Come out and support the Red Cross and the USC Salkehatchie, help save lives~!

USC Salkehatchie men's soccer team headed to Clemson, South Carolina to take Tri-County Technical College on Wednesday~

The USC Salkehatchie mens soccer team will be looking to extend it's 1-game winning streak against Tri-County Technical college in Clemson, South Carolina on Wednesday.

The Indians match is scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 pm, once we get results they will be posted here on the blog and Twitter.

USC Salkehatchie men's soccer team outlasts Gordon College

On a wet field, the USC Salkehatchie men's soccer team outlasted Gordon College for a 2-1 victory at home in Allendale, South Carolina. The complete story will be on www.uscsalkathletics.com this Friday.

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians breast cancer awareness game this afternoon was a huge success according to head coach Mitch Smith, "We wanted to bring awareness to this disease and show our support. I want to thank everyone that came out in support of our event today."

NJCAA official website will be down Sunday October 11th

According to the NJCAA~

On Sunday, October 11th, from 8:00 AM - 12:00 noon, the City of Colorado Springs will be performing maintenance on the transformer to the building where the NJCAA National Office is housed. As a result, the NJCAA website( www.njcaa.org ), schools website and phone system will be taken offline and will be unavailable for access during that time. As soon as power is restored to the building, access to the website will also be restored. Your patience throughout this process is appreciated.

USC Salkehatchie SGA Pack The Stands~ Monday October 12th~

The USC Salkehatchie SGA will be hosting Pack the Stands Day for the soccer games on Monday October 12th. The Men’s game starts at 3:00 pm and women’s starts at 5:00 pm. Any student who attends and presents their student i.d. can receive a free hot dog or candy from the concessions stand. Let’s all go out and pack the stands! Games are against Gordan College.

If you will look on the right hand side of the page, you will notice the new feature. 2009 MLB Playoffs Has Plenty of NJCAA Representation

USC Salkehatchie Indians soccer programs have rough day against Louisburg College

The USC Salkehatchie men's soccer team went first against Louisburg College early at 1:00 pm. The Indians were unable to score against Louisburg (ranked in the NJCAA top 25) but Louisburg was able to push across 7 goals in the game. The Indians will be back in action Monday against Gordon College at home in Allendale, SC at 5:00 PM.

In Lady's action, the Lady Indians found themselves over matched early as the Louisburg women were able to score 2 goals to start the game. The Lady Indians made the game close in the first half on a goal by freshman Shannon Shaffer (Hampton, South Carolina) making the score 2-1.

Late in the first, Louisburg added two more to lead 4-1 at the break. In the second half, the Louisburg women had their way scoring 3 more to win the game 7-1.

USC Salkehatchie to host Breast Cancer Awareness game this Sunday in Allendale, SC

* This is a scrimmage and does not count towards USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians over-all record. No stats or scores will be kept from the game~*

USC Salkehatchie men and women fall to South Georgia~!

Salkehatchie men’s soccer falls to South Georgia 4-2
The USC Salkehatchie men’s soccer team went on the road to Douglas, GA on Monday and lost to
South Georgia College by a score of 4-2. The Indians got on the board first when Greg Egan put one in from long range. Unfortunately this provoked an onslaught of four goals by the host team over the remainder of the half and Salkehatchie found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 score line at the mid point. In the second both teams attacked and defended with gusto. The Indians managed to pull back one goal on a penalty kick taken by Brian Sheffield and that was all the scoring accomplished by either team in the second half. “Our reserves have been stepping up lately to show what they can do,” said Glass, “we substituted liberally in the second half against South Georgia and the reserves really came through for us.” On Saturday the team traveled to Wilmington Delaware and lost to Cape Fear Community College by a score of 2-0. The Indians put up a spirited defense but were unable to score. “We just could not maintain any possession which is a prerequisite to scoring,” said Glass.

This Saturday the Indians will host NJCAA 6th ranked Louisburg College with the men playing at 1 pm and the ladies kicking off at 3 pm. Next week the men play Gordon College at home on Monday, women at 3 men at 5 pm. On Wednesday the men travel to Pendleton, SC to play Tri-County Tech at 5 pm.


Salkehatchie women’s soccer drops one to South Georgia College 3-0

The USC Salkehatchie women’s soccer team went on the road to Douglas, GA on Saturday and lost to
South Georgia College by a score of 3-0. The Indians were only able to field 9 players for the match due
to a combination of factors starting with the fact that the team only has 14 players on the roster as it is.
One Salkehatchie player had to go to court on Monday, two had academic demands placed on them by
professors which required their presence in Allendale on Monday and two were serving suspensions - one for
a red card and another for an accumulation of yellows. “I have never traveled to a match with so few players,”
said Salk Soccer Coach Bill Glass, “but the match had to be played so the players serving suspensions would
get credit for sitting out the game.” What could have been a disaster turned into a bonding experience for the women
as they worked together for 90 tough minutes to limit their hosts to three goals. South Georgia kept 11 players on the field for the full 90 minutes and used their starters right up to the end of the match. “Our nine girls played hard and played together
against the odds without a break for the duration,” said Glass, “when the final whistle blew they all fell down exhausted but once they were up the ladies were all smiles and busy congratulating each other knowing that they had quite literally left it all on the field.” On Saturday the women were hammered 5-0 by Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC. “We got a red card handed to us early during a very physical match,” said Glass “that was the decisive factor in the game other than that we would have our hands full with Cape Fear even with 11 players on the field.” This Saturday the Indians will host NJCAA 6th ranked Louisburg College with the men playing at 1 pm and the ladies kicking off at 3 pm. Next week the Indians host Gordon College on Monday, women at 3 men at 5 pm. On Wednesday the men travel to Pendleton, SC to play Tri-County Tech at 5 pm.

Lady Indians, men's soccer teams fall to Cape Fear Community College

Hello everyone, I am sorry there has been a delay with reporting scores the past few days. My wife and I welcomed our new daughter into the world on Thursday and as anyone with kids understand, sleep has been nonexsistant. I am posting these scores from Saturday's games against Cape Fear Community College, I got the scores from our athletic director and she believes them to be correct. Former USC Salkehatchie Lady Indian walks on at Lander University~

Former USC Salkehatchie Lady Indian Jacki Haisley (Lander University) at the plate last season~

When Jacki Haisley left USC Salkehatchie, she thought her softball career was over. She had decided that she wanted to focus on her studies but after meeting some of the players on the softball team at Lander University, she decided to give it a go. Jacki went out as a walk-on and made the team, the entire USC Salkehatchie athletic family is super proud of her.

I recently spoke with Jacki and we had a question and answer session, which you can read below~

Q: What position are you playing at Lander?

A: At Lander, I'll be playing both 3rd base and outfield.

Q: What is your major?

A: My major is exercise science.

Q: How do you feel coming to USC Salkehatchie helped prepare you for Lander both academically and in pursuing your dream of continuing your softball career?

A: USC Salkehatchie taught me how to manage my time when it came to preparing for school work. I learned how to balance my academic life with the every day activities of being a student-athlete. On the field, I was able to become more focused and dedicated to the sport and realized that you have to work hard in order to achieve your goals. This has helped me to prepare for life in a tougher academic and athletic environment and I am looking forward to the challenges it brings me.

USC Salkehatchie SGA Fitness Challenge~October 2nd!

The USC Salkehatchie Student Government Association will be hosting a fitness challenge on the West campus in Allendale, SC on Friday, October 2 at 11 a.m. between the LRB and SCB. Come out and enter the challenge to see how fit you are! The event is open to all USC Salkehatchie students~

The USC Salkehatchie Student Government Association East will be hosting a tailgate cookout today, October 1 at 12:15 in Marvin Park. Come enjoy the cookout food and fun! All students are invited to attend and don't forget to join the SGA today!

Lady Indians earn 1-1 tie against Oxford College

This past Wednesday the Indians jumped in their vans and traveled over near Atlanta to play Oxford College of Emory University. The Oxford women had roughly handled several teams that the Indians had played and struggled with so the Indians were expecting a tough match in Georgia. They were not disappointed. “Oxford College is a premier NJCAA women’s soccer program,” according to Glass, “they compete successfully in the tough region 17 which has produced several NJCAA national champions in recent times.” The Indians women were not intimidated by Oxford and played systematically to achieve a 1-1 draw. “This was a fantastic result for this team as we went to Georgia with exactly 11 players,” said Glass, “we had 0 subs, this on the day after our hard fought battle with Lancaster.”

On Saturday at 3pm the Salk women’s soccer team will travel to Wilmington, NC to play last year’s Region X champion Cape Fear Community College. The Indians lost to Cape Fear 4-2 earlier in the season and are looking to even up the series on this trip.
