USC Salkehatchie's 12-game winning streak comes to an end at the hands of Cape Fear CC 91-81

The USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team fell short tonight at home against Cape Fear Community College, 91-81.

The Indians normal high powered offense was nonexsistant from the start of the contest, the Indians never lead in the contest. They were able to muster a 34-34 tie with 2:68 left in the first half. The score at the half was 42-39 Cape Fear CC.

The Sea Devils would control the entire second half as Tavares Speaks lead the way, pumping in 37 points.

The Indians would eventually fall by a final of 91-81 to Cape Fear CC.

USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett said, "We have to learn from tonight, the streak is over and I am glad. The kids have to understand we have to get back to work. We will meet them again next Friday, it's a huge game. We have to watch game film and get to work."

USC Salkehatchie goes to 13-11 on the season and 5-1 in Region X play.

Cape Fear is now 16-7 on the season and 4-2 in Region X.

USC Salkehatchie men's basketball team to put 12-game winning streak to the test against Cape Fear CC tonight!

The USC Salkehatchie men's basketball team will be at HOME tonight against Region X foe, Cape Fear Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The Indians are riding a 12-game winning streak into tonight's game against the Sea Devils. They are 5-0 in Region X play and currently sit in first place.

The Sea Devils are 3-2 in Region X play and are in 2nd place in the Region.

We will have updates throughout the game via TWITTER, to view them you can sign up for Twitter or update this page and look on the right hand side.

Once the game is completed, we will have game photo's and stats from the game.

USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians softball splits with GMC (Saturday)

Milledgeville, GA-1/29/11
Game 1- USC Salkehatchie softball began their 2011 season with a double header at Georgia Military College. The Indians started the game on the right track with a leadoff walk by freshman Brittany Padgett followed by a single by freshman catcher Tori Gross. However Salk could not capitalize with runners on and no outs and stranded two in the first inning.

GMC came out swinging and Kayla Cooper lead off with a stand up double. Erin Gibson, starting pitcher, singled to center and Amanda Evan’s single scored Cooper to give the Bulldogs their first run of the season. Before the inning was over the Bulldogs tallied three more with a double by Carolina Conn. Georgia Military would go on to score three more off of starting pitcher Sam Martin with a three run homerun by Mallory Long. Leigha Hite came in to stop the damage in the 2nd and entered the game down by 7. In the 5 inning of relief Hite saw, the Bulldogs would only add on two runs, both in the fourth with a solo homer by Evans and RBI double by Wilson.

It took a few innings for the Indians bats to warm up but once they started there was no stopping Salkehatchie as they rallied from being down by seven to win 12-9. The top of the 4th started the ball rolling for the Indians and Sophomore Kandyce Ranew lead off with a single followed by a single by sophomore and starting pitcher Sam Martin. A fielder’s choice, error and hit by pitch saw Salk having the bases loaded and two outs. Martin crossed the plate first for the Indians via an RBI single by Padgett, followed by Hite scoring on an error by the 3rd baseman. The Indians tacked one more on in the fifth to make the score 9-3 for the Bulldogs. In the sixth inning Gross, Nicole Lewis and Marquita Wilson all crossed the plate, making the score 9-6 Ga. Military.

In the 7th the Indians rallied once again. Down by three in the last inning the Gross, Wilson and Ranew all scored with two outs tying the score at nine. Sophomore Dannon Reese hit in Sam Martin for the go ahead run leaving runners on first and second for freshman right fielder Laura Maule. Maule hit in the final two runs with a triple to left field, scoring Hite and Reese, ending the top of the 7th with the Indians up 12-9. In the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs could not overcome the three run deficit popping up to the catcher twice and finally grounding out to short to end the game.

The Indians showed poise and played like a team to overcome being down by seven runs to start of the game. They scored 12 runs in the final four innings and outhit the Bulldogs 18-14 while only one error. Hite earned her first win for the year and Gibson her first loss. Ranew and Gross reached base four out of her five at bats. Sam Martin lead the way with 3 RBI while Reese, Maule and Hite each had two.


Game 2- The Indians started game two off loading the bases in the first but stranded all three runners. The Bulldogs again came out the gates swinging hitting two homeruns and scored six in the first inning. Cooper was score by Gibson followed by a three run homerun by Evans and a two run homer by Conn. In the second Salkehatchie was able to plate one (Hite) after two errors by Evans the third baseman, but this is where there run production would come to an end.
GMC added three in the third, one being a solo homerun by Wilson. She would add their final run in the fourth, once again knocking out a solo homerun. The Indians could not comeback like the previously did and lost to the Bulldogs 10-1. Crystal Ward got her first win of the season and Hite her first loss. The Indians had six hits, one error, one run, and left nine on base.

USC Salkehatchie powers by Denmark Technical College 88-71 to extend streak to 12

The USC Salkehatchie Indians traveled up highway 78 to Denmark Technical College for a huge Region X rivalry game.

The Indians started slow, falling behind early by 9-points, at the 3:59 mark in the first half, the Indians took their first lead 34-30 and never trailed again.

The Indians would take a 45-31 lead in locker room.

In the second half, it was all Indians as they lead by 30-points mid-way in the half. In the end, the Indians would earn the win 88-71.

"I was pleased with how we came into this hostile environment and keep our composure, it is a tough place to play. We executed our plays tonight and we have really come together as a team. I have expressed to the guys we need to take one game at a time. I know that a lot of people getting excited about winning streaks but we had one goal to start the season, to win the region," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

The win extends the Indians winning streak to twelve games, they are now 13-10 on the season. They are 5-0 in Region X and in first place in the Region.

The Indians will face Cape Fear Community College at home this Friday night, tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

USC Salkehatchie splits with Georgia Military College in season opener

According to USC Salkehatchie head coach Tatajana Slawson, the Lady Indians have split against Georgia Military today.

The Lady Indians won game 1, 12-9 and fell in game 2 by a final of 10-1 in five innings.

We will have a recap of the game tomorrow from coach Slawson.

Indians winning streak still intact, now at 11-games after 88-69 victory over Brunswick CC

The USC Salkehatchie Indians continued their winning ways this afternoon against Brunswick CC with a 88-69 victory over the Dolphins. Today's win improves the Indians to 12-11 and 4-0 in Region X play, it was their 11th victory in a row.

The Indians scored the opening points when Joel Mondo sank one of two free-throws to open the game. Cape Fear CC would come right back down on their next possesion and score on a Lattrell Royster jump shot.

Cape Fear would retain the lead throughout the first half but with 7:15 remaining, sophomore Darnell Jackson would take over for the Indians and get the lead. Brunswick CC would regain the lead only once more in the entire game and that came with 4:19 left 30-29.

The Indians lead Brunswick CC at the half, 44-34.

In the second half, it was all USC Salkehatchie as they would go on a 15-0 run and never look back eventually winning the contest, 88-69. The Indians are now 12-10 on the season and 4-0 in Region X play.

The Tatjana Slawson era begins as Indians head to Milledgeville, Georgia to take on Georgia Military College tomorrow~

New USC Salkehatchie head coach Tatjana Slawson will be coaching in her first regular season game as the USC Salkehatchie women's softball team kick-off the 2011 regular season tomorrow against Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia. The Indians will play a double-header with game 1 starting at 1:00 pm and game 2 is scheduled to start around 3:00 pm. Once we have results from the game, we will post them here on the blog.

Indians make it 10-In a Row with 76-71 victory over Clinton Jr. College, improve to 3-0 in Region X

The USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team improved to 11-10 on the season and 3-0 in Region X play, as the defeated Clinton Jr. College 76-71. The win tonight was the Indians tenth in a row after starting the season, 1-10.

In the first half the Indians trailed early and often, finally getting their first lead of the night with 11:11 left in the half, 14-13. They would find themselves down by as many as ten points with 4:28 remaining but would narrow the gap to four to end the half, 40-36.

"We came out fast in the first half, I was impressed that we were focused and ready to play early on. I think we lost focus mid-way through the first half but we were able to regain our composure and fight back," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

USC Salkehatchie sophomore Donald Simms would lead the Indians in scoring for the first half with 12-points.

In the second half, it would be all Indians as they finally tied the game with 17:47 (41-41) and would regain the lead shortly after 45-43. The Indians would not trail again throughout the second half. Freshman Raston Brown would sink a 3-pointer with 11:24 to give the Indians their largest lead of the contest (59-49) The Indians would go on to win the contest, 76-71.

Indians extend winning streak to 9-games after beating Knights in finals seconds~

Jan. 18--Aiken Technical College head coach Bruce Capers lamented before Monday night's meeting with USC-Salkehatchie that his Knights, losers of five of their last seven games coming into the Martin Luther King Jr. Day battle with the Indians, had been in every game all season but had somehow found a way to lose most of them in the closing seconds. The seventh year coach predicted that those breaks would eventually start going his team's way.
Monday wasn't the night.

Trailing by two points with 18.6 seconds left to play, ATC had the ball last with a chance to win the game. It even had a good look when Jamar Jackson, who had already knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, had an open shot in the corner that would have won the game. The Lexington native's jumper, though, clanged off the rim, and the putback attempt by Anthony Rapley also came up empty as USC-S (11-9) celebrated a 57-55 victory over the Knights (8-11) in front of a fired up crowd participating in a "Gold Out" at the ATC Student Activities Center.

"At some point, we have to learn how to close these games out," said Capers of the game's final seconds. "(Jackson) is one of the best shooters I've ever coached. He's made plenty of those for us, and I thought it was a great situation for him. We got the look we wanted, but the shot just didn't go."
The bounces may not have gonw the Knights' way down the stretch, but it was one glaring weakness the rest of the game that Capers will remember most when looking back at what could have been. ATC struggled mightily at the free throw line, making just 5 of 13 attempts from the charity stripe. In a game that was so tightly contested, those miscues proved costly.

"I truly felt that was the difference in the ball game," said Capers.
ATC also had a difficult time finding an answer for USC-S sophomore Donald Sims in the paint. The 6-foot-6 Chester native scored a game-high 19 points and dominated the glass, coming close to a triple-double with a pile of blocked shots, as well.

The Knights gave themselves a chance, going on a 9-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 29-25 lead into the locker room and then coming back from a 48-42 hole with eight minutes left to set up the late-game drama.

Deantre Johnson led ATC with nine points, while Jackson, Lavaron Rason and Archie Adams had eight each. Adams, a South Aiken High School product, scored six of his points late in the second half to help keep ATC around.
"Archie always plays hard," said Capers. "You never have to worry about that. He defends well, and he usually makes shots."

Indians defeat Denmark Technical College 95-90. Extend winning streak to 8-games~

The USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team continued their winning ways tonight at home against Denmark Technical College, 95-90. In the first half, their were 13 lead changes as the game went back and forth between two rivals. The Panthers would enjoy a 2-point lead at the half, 41-43.

To start the 2nd half, the Indians built a 10-point lead 55-45 with 16:25 left. Denmark Tech would roar back to an 80-77 advantage with 7:00 left in the game.

The Indians would retake the lead for the last time with 1:44 left and would never look back, eventually winning by a final of 95-90.

"I was upset with how we played in the first half, we had opportunity's but didn't take advantage if them but Denmark Technical did. We came out strong in the second half and built a big lead but we allowed them to fight back. Denmark Tech has a strong team and the next game against them will be a challenge, no doubt" said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

The USC Salkehatchie basketball team, currently on a 7 game winning streak, will face Denmark Technical College this Thursday night the 13th at 7 pm at home for the first region game of the season.

USC Salkehatchie Indians earn 7th straight victory with win over Middle Georgia~

The USC Salkehatchie Indians went into the half trailing by four, 41-37, not an unfamiliar spot over the past several games. The Indians would fall behind 50-39 with 15:38 left in the second half and from that point on, they inched closer and closer. The Indians would get their first lead of the game with 5:49 left 64-62.

As the game went back and forth in the final 5 minutes, the Indians would take one final lead 70-69 with 11:3 left in the game. Middle Georgia had the ball and with 2.4 seconds left missed a 3-pointer, after the shot the officials met and determined there was .06 seconds left in the contest. Middle Georgia Tay Mallory which was 6 of 7 in the 3-point determined missed a long 3-pointer to end the game.

"Just when I began to think we were not playing hard, the guys surprised me. I will take that type of team effort every night. It was a great team effort, we just need for it to continue as we head into Region play," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

The Indians start Region X play next Thursday at HOME against Denmark Technical College at 7:00 pm.

The Indians are now 7-10 on the season.
