Three high school teammates moving on to play at the same school and live together in an off-campus house -- the picture painted proved too good to pass up.
Three Beaufort High School boys soccer players -- Jon Parker, Hayden Cormier and Mac Bustard -- acted on a sweet opportunity Thursday, each signing to play at USC-Salkehatchie in Allendale.
"We decided that's what we're going to do," Parker said. " 'We're all from Beaufort, so we should get a house together and go play soccer and go to school.' "
Parker started the process by talking to USC-Salkehatchie soccer coach Bill Glass. The midfielder then told Cormier there might be a chance both of them could play.
The pair visited the school for a tryout and did well, Cormier said. Both were offered the chance to play.
Bustard's path to Allendale varied. He didn't play with the Eagles this season, having graduated in Spring 2009. The forward tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a preseason drill that year and hasn't played organized soccer in more than a year.
Bustard, who had joined the Army National Guard in December 2008, was offered the chance to get out after he hadn't been sent to boot camp in a year. His former teammates told him about the possible opportunity at USC-Salkehatchie and he called Glass.
"I just figured it's a good opportunity to get back into soccer," said Bustard, who had been working at a golf course on Fripp Island.
Cormier said he considered trying to walk on at Winthrop University but he thought his chances to play at the Rock Hill school would be minimal.
After the tryout at Salkehatchie, "We knew we stood a real good chance to be something on that team," Cormier said.
Parker, who will play this summer in the Clash of the Carolinas all-star event, played midfield for the Eagles but said he wasn't sure where he might play in college.
He said the two-year school would give him the opportunity to earn playing experience and the chance to transfer with more skills.
"Hopefully, I can just get on the team and wherever I end up is fine with me," Parker said. "If I can fight for a starting position, that's what I'm looking for."
