The USC Salkehatchie Indians came into today's match against Spartanburg Methodist College with a record of 4-2 overall and 3-1 in Region X play. The Indians and Pioneers both lost their earlier match this season against Louisburg College. The Indians took the early lead on a penalty kick-goal by Elijah Ukpong. The Pioneers would answer later in the first half with a penalty kick-goal of their own. The score was knotted at the half, 1-1.
In the second half, the Indians would get two goals from Mamadu Ka to give the Indians a 3-1 lead late. SMC would get a goal right before the end of the match, making the final USC Salkehatchie 3, SMC 2.
"We played our hearts out today, I knew this team could do it if we executed our plays and today we did. SMC is a very good team and it is great to come out with the victory," said coach Glass. The Indians are now 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in Region X play. They will travel to Columbia Internation University tomorrow in Columbia, South Carolina. The match is set to start at 7pm.
