Hampton, VA " Johnson C. Smith University head men's basketball coach Stephen Joyner, Sr., along with senior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) and sophomore forward Emilio Parks
have been recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (CIAA) as the Coach, Player, and Newcomer of the Week,
respectively. This is a third time honor for Trevin, a second for
Emilio and a first for Joyner this season.
This week, Joyner showed why he's the active coaching czar in the CIAA with three blowout conference wins. First, Joyner led the Golden Bulls to an 85-52 road victory over VA Union. The next night JCSU earned an 88-69 win against Chowan on their home floor. Two days later, the Golden Bulls knocked off the top team in the Northern Division (ECSU) for an 89-57 win. JCSU earned three wins in four nights and outscored their opponents by a combined 84 points.
Trevin Parks averaged 26 points and 5.6 assists in three games played this week; all victories. Parks scored 32 points in an 89-57 win over the top team in the Northern Division, Elizabeth City State. Despite the high point total, he is still shooting an impressive 51% from the floor and averaging four assists on the season. Parks has four games this year where he has scored 30-plus points.
Emilio Parks continues to make his mark in the CIAA by scoring and rebounding. In three wins this week, Parks averaged 15.6 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 58% from the field. On the road against VA Union, Parks produced a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards. The very next night, he put up 19 points and nine rebounds versus Chowan.
