The USC
Salkehatchie Indians were sitting at 2-1 in Region X play after three
road games. USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett was looking for
one more win on the road, "I told our guys that Denmark Tech was going
to be ready to play us. We look at several other teams in the Region as
rivals and Denmark Tech always guns for us. They just got a new coach
yesterday and I don't know what he could have put in since his hiring."
Denmark
Tech came out in the first half ready to take it to the Indians and
they did early leading by as many as 11-points early on. The Indians
were able to fight back but trailed 38-27
at the half.
In the second half it was all Indians until late in the half, they would retake the lead with 9:30 remaining 54-50.
The Indians would extend the lead to as many as 12-points but Denmark Tech would give it one more go but fell short 83-81.
"It
was a dogfight tonight, I thought we played them hard in the second
half but you can't win every game like that. We have to learn to play
from the tip-off until the final buzzer. We missed 12 free throws
tonight and we have to work on that as they are going to be crucial in
tight games. I will take tonight's win, it is hard to go on the road
four straight games in this region and come out with three wins," said
coach Garrett.
The Indians beat Clinton Jr. College Monday night in Clinton 58-57.
They will finally be back at home February 8th against Cape Fear with the tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
