The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team looked to Sunday's game against Stanly Community College as their chance to get back to .500 baseball. After a one hour rain delay, the Indians would fall behind early on 3-run third by the Eagles. The Indians would respond by scoring 3 in their half of the 3rd to tie the game.
Freshman pitcher Brandon Stoots would come out of the game in the top of the 4th and be replaced by freshman Richard Carmichael. Carmichael would get the first batter he faced to pop out to left field but after running into trouble for the next three batters, he would get pulled. Sophomore Tyler Asbury came in and shut things down and would remain in the game for it's remainder.
The day would belong to freshman Ryan Walker after he entered the game due to an injury to D.J. Osby early in the game. Osby was trying to lay down a sacrifice bunt when he was hit in the finger with two strikes and had to leave the game. Walker took his at bat over and struck out.
It was Walker's next three bats that would set the tone for the Indians offense. In the bottom of the fourth he would hit his first collegiate home run, a two run shot. He wouldn't be done for the day as he hit two more two-run homers in the bottom of the 6th and 8th, giving him 6-rbi's on the day and three home runs. His last gave the Indians the go ahead runs and the victory. Sunday's win gave the Indians the series (2-1) over Stanly CC.
Sophomore Tyler Asbury earned the victory in relief for the Indians, his first of the season.
The Indians are now 8-8 on the season and will be back in action next weekend (March 12th and 13th) for their first Region X weekend series of the year against USC Sumter in Sumter, South Carolina.
