As you know the Lady Indians are in the losers bracket after falling to Pitt Community College 3-0 in game 1 this morning at 12:15.
The loss put the Lady Indians in the losers bracket and they now face a long journey if they are to reach the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
It isn't impossible but below is an outline of what the Lady Indians face to get to the championship game.
They will start their journey at 10:00 am against Southeastern Community College, during the regular season the Lady Indians defeated Southeastern CC in both Region X games played.
If they defeat Southeastern CC at 10:00 am, the will have to turn around and play again at 12:15 against Stanly Community College as they lost to Spartanburg Methodist College today in 5-innings 9-0.
The Lady Indians defeated Stanly Community College in both of their regular season games, both games were close.
If the Lady Indians defeat Stanly CC, they will have one more game on Saturday afternoon at 4:45 pm. They would face the loser of the 2:30 pm game against Surry Community College and Florence Darlington Technical College. In the surprise of the tournament, Surry Community College upset a Region X tournament favorite headed into the tourney Aiken Tech.
If the Lady Indians win all three of those games, they would play again on Sunday at 12:15 for a chance to play in the championship game. The bracket gets so old on the other side of the loser bracket, it is hard to tell who they would play if they made it to the Sunday 12:15 game.
The winner of the Sunday 12:15 game would then have to face the team in the winners bracket and if they go into the game without a loss, they would have to play two more games to claim the championship.
Now, would this be an easy route to a championship? I can say without a doubt it will be a tough road to hoe but the Lady Indians are one tough group of girls. In only the third year of softball at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, a ton of records have fallen with this group and if it can be done, this group can do it.
USC Salkehatchie head coach Mitch Smith said, "We are going into the first game on Saturday against Southeastern and take them one game at a time, I know we have a great group of girls but they are the one's playing and it is up to them to dig deep and want to win this thing. Do I think we can do, sure I think we can. If I didn't believe in my team, I'd be in the wrong profession. I can assure you every team in the losers bracket feels as though they can win and someone will, I will tell our team- why not us."
