USC Salkehatchie softball scores from the weekend

Weekend baseball FINALS against USC Sumter

The Indians will be back in action this weekend against Guilford Technical College in Greensboro, North Carolina. If you are planning on attending the games, I have posted directions in a post below.

Indians come up one game short of Region X title~

The USC Salkehatchie Indians went into the 2012 Region X tournament
as a third seed but to many they were considered an underdog to win it all. In
game one, they would face Brunswick Community College a team that defeated
USC Salkehatchie in
game one of the 2010 opening round and eventually went on to win the Region X
title. The Indians trailed at the half and it looked as though the Dolphins
would once again get the best of the Indians.

In the second half it was not to be, the Indians fought and clawed their way
back in the game through sure will and would go on to get the first round win
84-75.

Next in round two the Indians would face Clinton Jr. College, the two teams
split their regular season games. USC Salkehatchie head coach was anxious about the match-up, " I
think we can get past Clinton Jr. College but I know they will be fired up to
face us in the semi-finals. It has been five years since I coached there but
they will use it to try and keep us from going to the championship."

Clinton Jr. College came out with their run and gun offense and in no time
lead the Indians and would keep that lead at the half.

In the second half, the Indians would again fight and claw their way back in
the game with a solid performance by sophomore Randall Black Jr. and
freshman Emilio Parks.

They again earned a victory by defeating Clinton Jr. College 74-70.

Spartanburg Methodist would defeat Aiken Technical College in their
semi-final game, setting up and epic battle between the Indians and
Pioneers.

"We will need to play a flawless game against SMC if we want to win, I will
relay that to my guys in the morning. SMC is a very good basketball team and
they will bring their all against us and with them playing at home it will be an
uphill battle," said Coach Garrett prior to the championship game.

In the championship game, the Indians jumped out to an early lead but once
SMC got hot things seemed to get out of hand as they would lead by as many as
sixteen in the first half.

After the half, the Indians again showed they would not go down easily and
before the final buzzer had clawed back within six points, they would fall
74-68.

"I give SMC all the credit as their guys came out ready to play, they had a
great season. I am so proud of our guys, they never gave up today or for that
matter throughout the entire tournament. I am excited about our future at USC
Salkehatchie, I think
we served noticed to the rest of Region X we are here to stay," said Coach
Garrett.

In other news from the tournament, freshman Jimmy Givens and sophomore Quincy
Washington were selected as first team- All Region X players.

The Indians finished the season with 21 wins, the most since restarting the
program.
