USC Salkehatchie men make early departure in Region X tournament~

The USC Salkehatchie men had high hopes going into their Region X tournament game against the #5 team in the nation Louisburg College.

It started pretty good for the Indians as they were able to hold Louisburg for the first 9-minutes but once Louisburg scored their first goal they found their groove.

In the end, the Indians would give up 9-goals and would be unable to score any of their own.

It was a great season for the Indians and enjoy in the USC Salkehatchie athletic family is very proud of you all.

USC Salkehatchie women fall to Louisburg College in Region X tournament~

The USC Salkehatchie women found it tough going against the Louisburg College women on a cool wet field. The Lady Indians found themselves down several times to 8 and 9 players. It started when USC Salkehatchie had one player get hit in the mouth on an accidental play, it jarred her tooth loose. Then USC Salkehatchie had their goalie go down with an ankle injury and one player was fighting a bad back. I am not making excuses as Louisburg executed well on both offense and defense and deserved the win. It was a great season for the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians and the entire athletic department is super proud of you all.

USC Salkehatchie Indians preseason basketball results for the weekend~

On October 11 the USC Salkehatchie basketball team traveled to Columbus State University in Columbus, GA for the preseason portion of their schedule and played in the Corry Black Jamboree. The Indians played 3 games: the first game they played Gorgon College, "we did a great job with our pressure defense, we shared the ball on offense and we did a decent job with our offensive execution," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett. Sophomore Donald Sims, 6-6 215 F and Xavier Mayfield 5-11 180 G both from Chester, SC played very well and in the second half the Indians held Gorgon College to 7-points, the final score was 67-27.

In the 2nd game vs. Chattanooga State, TN it was a back and forth affair as the Indians lost the game in the final seconds 57-55.

Roy Hampton 6-5 235, Winston Salem, NC ,Isaac Oppong 5-11 180, Toronto Canada, Nate Drayton 6-6 245 Fr. Savannah, GA , all showed flashes of their potential.

The last game vs. Albany Tech Fred Hargrove 6-7 190, F Eatonton GA, and Earl Ware 6-3 180, Fr. Pontiac SC played very well as the Indians defeated Albany Tech a team the will face in the regular season on Nov.14th .

October 17th At All tournament Park, Marietta, GA it wasn’t a great showing for the Indians, as they blew and 8-point lead with minutes to go and Lost to Snead State,AL 39-37 in a sloppy game. The Snead game would be SO. Brandon Riley 6-2 190 G Eatonton, GA first action since the Indians started practice. Even though he was rusty he showed flashes of his potential.

2nd game vs. Lawson St. Al, was the same type of game as the Indians built a 10-point lead and held on to a 6-point victory.

The Indians last game vs. St. Johns River,FL , coach Garrett said "the theme of the day is that we were flat and it showed in our play." The Indians would go on to lose by a final score of 37-41.

Donald Sims was the most consistent player during the game, he had several monstrous dunks on 4 of St. Johns River players.

"After the games were over, I would have to say we took some steps back but that’s why it’s the preseason and we will go back and correct our mistakes. We are a little over 3 weeks away from playing one of the better teams in the country in Central Florida CC,FL Nov, 6th, the school I played for in college. We will regroup and make this a very exciting year," said coach Garrett
