USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team ends year on positive note~




The USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team looked to end 2010 on a positive note today against College of Central Florida. The College of Central Florida came into the contest with a 13-3 record, while the Indians were 6-10, but on a 5 game winning streak.

The game went back and forth with several lead changes. The Indians started the game down 29-10 but cut it to 37-26 at the half.
In the end, the Indians would come out on top, 68-65.
USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett said, "Unbelievable, just unbelievable the way this guys have played the past couple of weeks. I am so proud of the progress they have made and the way they have learned to play together as a unit. I am looking forward to seeing what 2011 has in store for this team, if they continue to grow they can play with anyone."

The Indians are now 7-10 on the season, they will be back in action January 6th at home against Middle Georgia College.

USC Salkehatchie men's basketball victorious against Sante Fe College in Florida~


The USC Salkehatchie Indians continued their winning ways after a rough start to the season in Florida. The Indians were victorious over Sante Fe College tonight 70-61 in Florida.

The Indians started the season 1-10 but since that rocky start, the Indians have reeled off 5 straight wins.
Leading the Indians tonight,

Donald Simms 15 -points, 9-rebounds, Chris Rhodes 13- points and Nate Drayton 11- points and 8- rebounds.
USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett said, "We have a long way to go but I have to say that I am pleased with our progress. We had to get our legs up under us and we are finally playing as a unit. I just hope the guys understand we have a ways to go and will continue to work towards getting better with every game."
The Indians will wrap up their 2010 part of the schedule tomorrow in Florida against College of Central Florida at 4:00 pm (New Years Eve).
College of Central Florida comes into the contest with a 13-3 record, while the Indians are now 6-10.

Indians men's BASKETBALL TODAY!


The USC Salkehatchie men's basketball team has traveled to Brunswick North Carolina this morning to participate in the Men's Basketball Holiday Hoop Fest at Brunswick CC.


The schedule for the USC Salkehatchie games are listed below. Once we get scores reported, we will add them here on the blog. "We are looking forward to getting back to basketball after having a week off. I hope we can build some momentum heading into the Christmas break," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett. The Indians enter this weekend's action 3-10, having won their last two contests.

Former player spotlight

Dishone Gregory, a former member of the USC Salkehatchie men's basketball team, is now a member of the Clark Atlanta men's basketball team. He has seen significant playing time in his first year with Clark Atlanta is expected to see more playing time as the season progresses.
Clark Atlanta has been ranked as high as #17 in the NABC/Division II Men's Basketball poll this season.

Indians come alive go 2-0 in USC Salkehatchie Quizno's Holiday Tournament, defeat Wytheville 100-81




It took the Indians 11-games to final wake up and smell the coffee but after last night's win on Johnston CC, the Indians lit up the scoreboard against Wythville scoring 100 for the first time to two seasons.




"We played like I was looking for us to play from the start, we came out last night and tonight and played hard from the tip-off. If we can build on this, I hope good things will come to the team. We cut down our turnovers and played as a unit," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.




The Indians never trailed in the contest and took a 44-37 lead in the half. In the second half, the Indian lead by as much as 20 points.






The final was USC Salkehatchie 100, Wytheville 81.

North Charleston Prep outlasts Clinton Jr. College in overtime~86-81

North Charleston Prep rolled in the second half against Clinton Jr. College and at the end of regulation, the score was tied 70-70. Clinton Jr. College had to sink two free-throws to force the game into OT.



In OT, North Charleston Prep pulled away and earned a 86-81 victory, both teams ended the tournament 1-1.

Denmark Tech takes game 1 of second day of USC Salkehatchie Quizno's Holiday Classic


Denmark Technical College took a commanding lead into the second half, up by as many 24-points. Johnston CC, would fight back and pull within 4-points with 4:29 remaining 67-63. In the end, Denmark Tech pulled away for a 85-79 victory.

USC Salkehatchie earns first home victory of the season against Johnson County CC


The USC Salkehatchie came in tonight's game desperately looking for a win, the Indians were 1-9. The Indians without Louisiana Lafitte commitment Darnell Jackson, would need the other players to step up and they got just that. Sophomore Donnie James would light up the score board in the first half, throwing down 14. The Indians lead at the half, 38-31.

In the second half it was much of the same, the Indians would lead the entire game and used their quickness to retain the lead. Sophomore Nate Drayton was the star of the show for the Indians offense, scoring 22-points with 20-rebounds and 4-steals.

" We came out tonight and did what I have been looking for all season. I knew we are capable but until tonight we haven't showed it. I was pleased with the way we controlled the basketball and cut down on our turnovers, I'll have to look but I think we only had 5 or 6 all game. I want to come out tomorrow night with the same intensity and effort, we had fun tonight," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

USC Salkehatchie leads 38-33 at the half~



USC Salkehatchie leads Johnson County CC at the half, 38-33. In the first half, Donnie James scored 14-points to lead the Indians, followed by a Nate Drayton with 10-points, 9-rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
The second half is underway, once the game is final we will have photo's and results.

Cape Fear flawless in game 3 against Wytheville Community College (Photo's)


Cape Fear Coummunity came out today and proved why they are a perennial powerhouse in DI Region X. The Sea Devils took it to the D3 Wytheville Community College Wildcats early and often. The Sea Dogs took the lead earlier and never trailed in the contest. In the end the Sea Dogs would go on to a big win, 96-52.

Clinton College wins game 2 against Queen City Prep~ (Photo's)


Clinton Jr. College came out on fire against Queen City Prep early and kept the lead the entire game. Clinton Jr. College lead at the break, 47-40. In the second half, Queen City attempted a come back but was unsuccessful as Clinton Jr. College pulled away for a 98-91 final.







Denmark Technical College wins opening game of USC Salkehatchie Quiznos Classic (Photo's)

Denmark Technical College opened up the 2010 USC Salkehatchie Quizno's Holiday Classic this afternoon against North Charleston Prep. In the second half, Denmark Technical College lead by as many as 15-points but North Charleston fought back to take the lead with 2:09 left in the game. Denmark Tech would retake the lead with 2:00 left and retain it for the remainder of the game. North Charleston had one last shot to tie the game but missed a 3-pointer before throwing up a wild shot as time expired.


Winning coach Rob Proctor said, "We didn't come out and execute well on defense. We were resilient and fought throughout the game against a tough team. North Charleston played hard and were real aggressive." When asked what he expected once Region X play starts, he said "We are going to go undefeated, end of story."

USC Salkehatchie drops 2nd home game of season 77,66 to College of Coastal Georgia




The USC Salkehatchie Indians started the game slow again tonight at home in Walterboro, South Carolina. The Indians trailed 12-2 to start the game but fought back to take the lead 15-14 with 9:15 left in the first half. Coastal Georgia stormed back and lead at the half, 39-23.


In the second half, the Indians fell behind 53-39 with 8:42 left in the game but would pull within 7-points 65-58 with 3:58 remaining.


"It is the same story, different game. We have to learn to take care of the basketball and take advantage of opportunities. We have to become more focused and ready to play come game time. It is now up to the kids, if they want to win they have to learn to put forth the effort. With that said, I did see some bright spots tonight, Quincy Washington came off the bench and produced. I hope we can get other players involved and ready to play," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.


The Indians would stay around 10-points down for the remainder of the game and would eventually fall, 77-66.
