Indians 75, Brunswick CC 64 FINAL (2-9-2013)
The USC Salkehatchie Indians basketball team knew they needed a win to stay in the hunt for the Region X title after falling to Cape Fear on Friday night. "I just told the guys another loss and it would be a hard road to win the regular season title with SMC playing so well. I just wanted to come out and compete today," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.
In the first half, the Indians once again came out flat and soon found themselves behind by 12-points mid-way through the half.
They would pull within 9-points at the half, trailing 40-31.
In the second half, coach Garrett's team came out with more intensity and began to show signs of life down the stretch.
With 4:39 left the Indians pulled within 4-points and coach Garrett called a time-out.
He would have his guys enforce full court pressure and what pressure it was, the Indians scored six unanswered points and would take the lead 66-62 with a 1:54 remaining.
They would go on to earn the victory 75-64.
"I was glad to see us show up the second half, we have to play a complete game if we expect to compete. We missed close thirty free throws today and that can't happen every game. Again, a win is a win and I will take it," said coach Garrett.
The Indians will face the #1 team in the country Spartanburg Methodist College this Tuesday night at home in Walterboro, South Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
"I hope we can pack the house on Tuesday night, I want it to be as loud as any of us can remember. The team will be ready to give our all for the great fans we have," said coach Garrett.
