USC Salkehatchie splits with Stanly CC on Saturday

The USC Salkehatchie Indians sent sophomore Bert Knox to the mound in game 1. He would struggle some in the first inning but a wild pitch with 1 out would score the games only runs, as Stanly would score runners from 3rd and 2nd.
The Indians were unable to produce any offense for much of the game but in the bottom of the 7th, they would get runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Freshman Tyler Kirby would try and move the runners over by bunting a third strike foul for the Indians first out. Freshman Tyler Bice then came to the plate with a chance to move the runners over but he would hit a shot to third that ended the game in a double-play.
Knox would last 3 1/3 innings and freshman Jeremy Lacey would complete the game for the Indians.
In game 2, freshman Kalin Smith took the mound for the Indians. Smith has had excellent control for the Indians this season, with two complete games under his belt.
The Indians would strike first 1st inning when sophomore's Robby Assemany hit a deep fly ball that scored freshman Jermale Paige. They would add one more when freshman Tyler Bice scored from second on a single by freshman Dominik Aiken.
They would add one more in the bottom of the 2nd.
The Eagles would strike back in the top of the 3rd when Hunter Dull drove in Jarrett Ross.
Freshman Kalin Smith would get into some small trouble in the top of the 7th with 2-outs, when Jarrett Ross hit an RBI double. Coach Bubba Dorman went to the bullpen and called in sophomore Kyle Pittman to secure the Indians victory.
One pitch later, Pittman had secured an Indians victory and Smith's 3rd victory of the season.
Smith is now 3-1.
The Indians are now, 7-8 on the season.
They will be back in action against the Eagles at home on Sunday at 12:00 noon.
