USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball opens season with 90-72 victory~



The USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team started there regular season tonight at home against Orangeburg Calhoun Prep in Walterboro, South Carolina.



The Indians came out and opened a 5-0 lead early but OC Prep fought back and with 6:12 they took their first lead of the contest 25-24.

"We have been coming out in practice sluggish in the first part of it and tonight we did the same. I knew we would play a lot of different guys as we are still looking for the chemistry that will get us through the season," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.

The Indians would take a 40-36 lead into the half.



In the second half, the Indians found a grove, going on a 16-8 run to start the half.



In the end, the Indians earned their first victory of the season 90-72.

"I am pleased we earned the victory but we have a lot of work ahead of us. I tell my guys you have to continue to get better each day at practice and see improvement each game. We will hit the ground running tomorrow and get ready for this weekend's action," said head coach Travis Garrett.

The Indians will be back in action Friday November 4th against Rockingham in Aiken, SC at 5:00pm and again on Saturday November 5th against Gulf Coast (Florida) in Aiken, SC at 2:00 pm.
