Indians fall 83-81 in final game prior to start of Region X play

Travis Garrett head coach of the USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team was looking to use Thursday night's game as a launching point into Region X play. "I knew we needed to step up our game tonight against Gray Military, they have a lot of talented players. When you are going up against this type of competition, you would expect your guys to respond," said Garrett.

The Indians came out early with what looked like a great game plan against Gray Military, with the score 14-14 with 11:22 left in the first half.
The Indians would take a 11-point lead at one point but as Gray Military would continue to fight back, the Indians found themselves only leading 41-34 at the half.
In the second half, the Indians came out of the locker room with the lead but by the time clock hit 10:22, the score was knotted up again 50-50.
The game would go back and forth down the stretch but after a couple missed opportunities by the Indians, Gray Military Academy would earn the 83-81 victory.
"I am very disappointed in our play tonight, we have to learn to play defense but more importantly we have to learn to play with heart. I am telling you that once we start Region play next week, I am going to find five guys that want to play basketball. We are heading down the stretch and right now we are limping but I know with a little effort, we can get it done," said coach Garrett.
