Former Buc and Salk Indian Williams promoted to Royals’ AA

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former Charleston Southern pitcher Ali Williams was recently promoted to the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals, part of the Kansas City Royals organization.
Williams, who made 22 appearances for CSU in 2011 before being drafted by the Royals in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball Draft, is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA through four appearances with the Naturals. He earned a promotion thanks to a dominant early season stint with the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League. Williams recorded a 1.88 ERA over 24 innings, allowing only 16 hits and 11 walks while striking out 37.
Williams transferred to Charleston Southern for the 2011 season after spending two seasons – including his first ever as a pitcher – at USC Salkehatchie. He went 2-2 with a 5.53 ERA in 42.1 innings pitched as a Buc, notching 45 strikeouts.
