USC Salkehatchie mens basketball starts season 1-0 after defeating Gulf Coast State 78-76 (Today's game VS OCP scheduled for 2:00 pm has been cancelled- READ BELOW)

The USC Salkehatchie Indians started the season on a good note Friday night in Aiken, against NJCAA perennial powerhouse Gulf Coast State.

The Indians came out and played their style of basketball setting the tone early, they lead at the half 41-39.

In the second half the Indians lead throughout until 2:00 minutes left in the contest when Gulf Coast took a 75-74 lead.

The Indians would retake the lead for the final time with two seconds left 78-76, securing the victory.

"We played our hearts out tonight, I think we understand basketball and want to win. It is a long season and this is just one game but I was pleased with how we played tonight," said head coach Travis Garrett.

The Indians were scheduled to play Orangeburg Calhoun Prep today at 2:00 pm in Aiken, SC but the game was cancelled by OCP due to transportation issues.

The Indians now1-0 on the season will face Orangeburg Calhoun Prep at HOME Tuesday night with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 pm.
