The Indians were coming off several huge wins to start Region X play against Denmark Technical College earlier in the week and Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday.
USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett knew that today's contest against Brunswick CC would be a war, "I told the guys prior to the game that we always have close games against Brunswick CC and today would be no different. Brunswick head coach Walter Shaw and I are great friends and we like to beat each other and we coach hard and hopefully it carries on to the kids."
The Indians fell behind earlier as Brunswick CC jumped out to a 12-5 lead but fought back and lead at the half, 42-35.
In the second half, it was a back and forth game with no team getting more than four points ahead. The Dolphins would take their biggest lead of the half with twenty seconds to go, six points.
The Indians had one last chance with the score 77-78 and 4.2 seconds left, the Indians in-bounds pass would be stolen by Brunswick with 1.2 seconds and the Dolphins would hit one of two free-throws to close out the game.
"We have to start making free-throws and playing smarter. We are soft right now under the basket and must learn to box-out and get rebounds. We are a really good team but we have to start playing more as a unit and someone has to step-up and become the leader," said Garrett.
The final was Brunswick CC 79, USC Salkehatchie 77.
The Indians are now 14-8 on the season and 2-1 in Region X play. Brunswick CC improves to 4-1 in Region X.
The Indians will be back in action on Tuesday night against Clinton Jr. College in Rock Hill, SC at 7:30 pm.
