CONCORD, N.C. – The Benedict College men’s basketball team opened the 2013-14 season with an impressive 85-63 victory over Barber Scotia College on Thursday.
Andrew Crawford scored 22 points in his debut for the Tigers, connecting on five 3-pointers. Senior Lynden Davis added 21 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Brennan Reynard and Alex Brailsford each had six assists.
“Collectively, everybody played well,” Benedict head coach Fred Watson said. “The first game, there were some jitters we had to shake out early, but overall it was a good team win.”
The Tigers, now 1-0, overpowered the Sabers in the first half and jumped out to a 48-27 lead at the half. Crawford scored 19 points in the first half.
“We tried to get him going early and ran some plays for him,” Watson said about Crawford. “He’s a great shooter. I told everybody he’s one of the best shooters in the league and when he gets going, he’s hard to stop.”
