The USC Salkehatchie Indians upset the #1 NJCAA team in the country College of Central Florida 92-89 this afternoon in Walterboro, SC.
The Indians jumped out to an early lead going up 12-4 in the first 5-minutes. College of Central Florida would fight back and take a 44-40 half-time lead over the Indians.
In the second half the game swayed back and forth early before College of Central Florida seemed to be pulling away as they had last year on their way to the school's first NJCAA national title.
They would go up by as many as 14-points in the second half, before sophomore Juimmy Givens got hot adding 7- three pointers in the second half.
The Indians would take the lead with 1:04 remaining in the game 90-88 and would hold on for the victory.
"I am excited for the kids, it was a great win for the team and they earned it today. We had every emotion in the game, we got up early and fell behind mid-way the first half and trailed at the half. I can't say enough about the way we never gave up Jimmy Givens proved today that he is a big-time player, he got us 45-points against an elite NJCAA team, he will be getting looks from 4-year schools. Today's win marks the first time in school history we beat a #1 and I am going to savor it tonight and get back to work tomorrow," said USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett.
The Indians are now 4-1 on the season and will travel to Middle Georgia on Wednesday for a huge non-region match-up.
