HARSTVILLE, S.C. – Coker College baseball player Matthew Prosser has been named the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today. Prosser is the first baseball player to receive a SAC weekly award.
In his Coker debut, Prosser tossed six shutout innings to earn the win in Coker’s 12-3 victory over Chowan, allowing only two hits while striking out seven. Prosser’s strong performance helped lead Coker to a 2-1 series victory over the Braves during the season’s opening weekend.
For the season, Prosser is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in six innings on the mound. His seven strikeouts are good for third in the SAC, while his win total and ERA are tied for first.
Prosser transferred to Coker this season from USC Salkehatchie. A sophomore from Florence, S.C., Prosser is an education major. He is the son of Robin and Dave Prosser.
