Indians swept by USC Sumter in Sumter, SC

The USC Salkehatchie Indians went into their weekend series looking to come out with at least a split with the leading team in Region X, USC Sumter.

In the end the Indians would find themselves swept by the Fire Ants in 4-games. It would be a tough day on Saturday but on Sunday the Indians fought hard against the top ranked (Region X) Fire Ants.

In game three of the series, the final score was USC Salkehatchie 6, USC Sumter 9.

Sophomore, Mark Henderson took the loss for the Indians.

In game four on Sunday, the Indians would once again fall by a final score of 6-3.

The Indians now fall to 23-25 on the season and 13-15 in Region X.

The USC Sumter Fire Ants lead Region X with an overall 40-7 record and 22-4 in Region X.

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday against Pitt Community College to wrap up the season. Check the blog during the week for times or go to www.uscsalkathletics.com for schedule details and recaps of all the games throughout the season.

Indians baseball struggles against Region X leader, USC Sumter in Sumter, SC

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team found it tough going against USC Sumter in Sumter, South Carolina.

The Indians lost both games of the scheduled double-header, game 1 final was 13-3

The Indians fell in games 2 by a final score of 11-1.

The one bright spot for the Indians, Branfy Arias and Oliver Santos both hit home runs in the games.

The Indians will look to rebound on Sunday as they are scheduled to play a double-header against the Fire Ants, game 1 is scheduled to start at 12 noon.

The Indians are now 23-23 on the season and 13-13 in Region X.

The Fire Ants improve to 38-7 and 20-4 in Region X.

Once I get reports from Sunday's game, I will post them to the blog. I will be attending the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians make-up game with Patrick Henry that is scheduled to start at 2 pm in Allendale, South Carolina.

I have received several emails asking if we have received any word on the Indians baseball games from USC Sumter. I have not had any games reported yet but once they are reported, I will post them to the blog.

Symone Nettles (Lamar, SC) Makes USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians Softball History

*Notice*

On Thursday of this past week, freshman Symone Nettles (Lamar,SC) hit 3-home runs in one game, against Aiken Technical College, Aiken-South Carolina . I was asked today by a fan, why I didn't have a blog post about her accomplishment.

First of all, I will explain to everyone again, I will NEVER try and leave a players accomplishment off the blog or the athletic website.

Now, let me explain why I haven't written about this before today. On the day that Symone hit the 3-home runs, I was on the phone with the NJCAA the moment she hit her 3rd of the game, even as the ball was clearing the fence.

I was on the phone with the NJCAA's -Sports Information Director Mark Kruig asking him if 3-home runs in a single game by a freshman was an NJCAA record.

He was unsure and once the game was over, I went back to the office to check their record book on-line and all I can find is tournament records but nothing about a single game home run record.

I am waiting on a call back from Mr. Kruig and if I don't hear from him, I will contact him on Monday, about whether this is or is not a NJCAA record. If it is not an NJCAA record, it is FOR FACT a USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians record and for that we salute Symone for all her accomplishments on the field this season.

I want to say again , I will leave things off the blog from time to time and I thank fans and family members for contacting me about my missteps. I love doing the blog but it takes a lot of my personal time to keep it going. I am not really required by USC Salkehatchie to even have a blog but I suggested it, to keep you the fan, updated on a daily basis.

I know that freshman Symone Nettles will be recognized many times throughout her career at USC Salkehatchie and beyond once she moves on to another school. We are very thankful that we have such a great player but not only that, a great person. I have been around Symone many times at practice, during games and around campus and she is never one to toot her own horn or one that complains when things aren't going her way.

Again, congratulations to freshman Symone Nettles (Lamar, SC) for breaking the all-time single game home run record at USC Salkehatchie.

Indians headed to Sumter, SC to take on USC Sumter

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team is headed to Sumter, South Carolina to take on USC Sumter, a very important Region X match-up.

The Indians are 23-21 overall and 13-11 in Region X

The Fire Ants come into the match-up 36-7 and 18-4 in Region X.

Game 1 of today's double-header starts at 1pm today.

*Important Notice*

The Lady Indians will be making up their previously scheduled games with Patrick Henry Community College this Sunday April 19th in Allendale, South Carolina. It is a scheduled double-header with game 1 starting at 2pm and game 2 to follow at around 4pm.

The Lady Indians were supposed to play the double-headers that will be played on Sunday, back on May 29th.

The Lady Indians are have four wins in their last six games, they dropped two games to Aiken Technical College yesterday in Allendale.

Lady Indians let one slip away 9-8

The Lady Indians lead 8-5 headed to the top of the 7th but several hits an errors later, the Lady Indians found themselves behind 9-8.

Freshman Symone Nettles (Lamar, SC) has hit her 3rd home run in game two. The Lady Indians now lead 6-4 as we head to the top of the 6th.

The Lady Indians fell to the Lady Knights in game 1 by a final score 6-3.

Sophomore Cea Knox (Myrtle Beach)now 10-9 on the season, took the loss for the Lady Indians.
The Lady Indians made game 1 exciting in the bottom of the 7th, the Lady Indians scored 2-runs with 2-outs an let the bases loaded.

Sophomore Katie Henderson (Rock Hill,SC) is set to start game 2.

Lady Indians first pitch set for 1pm today! Aiken Technical College

The Lady Indians are getting ready to get underway against Aiken Technical College at 1 pm.

This will be the second time this season the Lady Indians have met with Aiken Technical College on the diamond, in the first match-up the Lady Indians fell in both games of a double-header. The first games were played at Aiken Technical College in Aiken, South Carolina.

USC Salkehatchie Salkehatchie Fitness Challenge-UPDATE

I have received several requests wanting results for the USC Salkehatchie Fitness Challenge, that was recently held on the West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina. SGA advisor Mitch Smith said, "There we no records taken that day. It was set up like a boot camp and to individually challenge each student that attended. I was glad that we had so many students come out and try the competion, it was a huge success and fun was had by all."

So, as no records were taken, there was no real "Winner" per say, but according to Smith, "Everyone that competed were champions."

Two USC Salkehatchie Indians-Oliver Santos and Branfy Arias among top leaders in entire NJCAA Division 1-Baseball

The USC Salkehatchie Indians are proud of Oliver Santos (Santo Domingo, D.R.), he has the 5th highest batting average in the entire NJCAA (Division 1) and the #29 highest on base percentage.

Sophomore Oliver Santos is batting 0.468 through 39.0 games in 124 at-bats, 58-hits, 12-doubles, 2-triples and 38-RBI's. He also has 7-home-runs (Team Leader).

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team will be selling Bar-B-Q Chicken dinners on April 26th at 12:30 pm at the USC Salkehatchie baseball located on the West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina.

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team is set to play Pitt Community College from Greenville, North Carolina on Saturday April 25th and Sunday April 26th (Double-Headers) both days, to learn more about the times and other USC Salkehatchie baseball information, go to www.uscsalkathletics.com.

USC Men's Soccer Program sign 5-Players From Florida

Five student-athletes from Jacksonville, Florida signed Letters of Intent to play men’s soccer at USC Salkehatchie on Monday. The players are Emir Begic, Gregory Egan, Ahmo Ibrahimovic, Adnan Osmanovic, and Brian Sheffield. “This is the largest number of players who have ever signed for one of my teams at the same time,” according to USC Salkehatchie Head Soccer Coach Bill Glass. The signing took place at Englewood High School in Jacksonville.

Emir Begic graduated from Englewood last year where he was a defender on the boy’s soccer team. He was named MVP for the Englewood boys soccer team two years running (06 - 07 and 07-08). He also plays on the Jacksonville Jaguars U-19 club soccer team. Begic will major in Accounting in college and intends to pursue a career in business.

Gregory Egan, another defender, is graduating from Wolfson High School where he was named Rookie Of The Year in his freshman year and later MVP. He was captain of his team at Westside Soccer Club and was named MVP there. Egan intends to obtain his college degree in Ocean Transportation and hopes to Captain a cruise ship one day.

Ahmo Ibrihimovic is a 2008 graduate of Englewood and also plays for the Jaguars club team. He is a goal-scorer who likes playing up top. Ibrihimovic will major in Physical Education and wants to teach and coach soccer at the high school level in the future.

USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians Car Wash This Friday April 17th 10-2 pm

If you recall the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians held a carwash earlier this school year in the fall, again this Friday April 17th, they will again be out washing cars beside the student services building. The Lady Indians are ready and willing to clean your car. The car wash is done by donations only, so it is up to you on how much you donate to the program. The money will be used to help support the Lady Indians as they gear up for the Region X tournament; May 2-3rd in Hartville, South Carolina.

We hope that you will bring your car out and get it shining for spring!

Lady Indians back at home-Thursday April 16th

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians will look to even the season series VS Aiken Technical College this Thursday in Allendale, SC. The games will start at 1 and 3pm.

The Lady Indians traveled to Aiken, SC earlier this season to take on Aiken Tech. In their double-header, the Lady Indians lost both games.

The Lady Indians lost game 1, 5-2 and game 2, 6-2.

The Lady Indians are 17-18 overall and 6-6 in Region X.

The Indians won both games of their double-header against Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina over the weekend.

USC Salkehatchie Athletic Banquet, April 28th-Advance Tickets Only!! Get Yours Early!!!

The USC Salkehatchie 2008-2009 Athletic Banquet will be held on April 28, 2009 at 6 p.m. in the atrium of the Science Building. This is an opportunity for us to recognize our student athletes and recap the 2008-2009 year.

Parents, other family members or friends are welcome to join us for the evening if they wish to purchase banquet tickets. Banquet tickets are $10 per person and must be purchased no later than April 20. We are sorry that we will not be able to have any ticket sales at the door that evening. We need to have a definite count of paid tickets by the April 20 deadline.

Lady Indians win 2 in Whiteville, NC against Southeastern Community College

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians trip to Whiteville, North Carolina to face Region X foe, Southeastern Community College has been a very fruitful one, as they have come away with two victories.

In game one, the Lady Indians defeated Southeastern by a final score of 9-0. In NJCAA softball the mercy rule comes into effect after 8-runs or more.

In game two, the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Rams by a final score of 9-1.

Indians split weekend series(2-2) with Louisburg College

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team have split again for the second day in a row against Louisburg College from North Carolina.

In game one (3rd of series) , it was all Louisburg, the Hurricanes scored 8-runs in the first inning while facing freshman starting pitcher Griffin Spires (West Columbia, SC) now 3-3 on the season.

The Indians would have to go through four pitchers in the game, none lasting over 2.2 innings.

Seeing action in game one was Griffin Spires (Starter),sophomore Dylan Hightower (Cayce,SC), freshman Tripp Strickland (Fairmont, NC) and finally freshman Will Lackey (Myrtle Beach, SC).

At the plate for the Indians, sophomore Tracy Asbill (Leesville, SC) lead the Indians by going 3-3 with 2-RBI's and on defense, he had 7-put outs.

The Indians had 3-players go 1-3- Carlos Santana, Oliver Santos, Bryan Parsons.

Randolph Brown and Jayvon Sanders went 1-2 in game one.
Game 3-Score by Innings:

In game 2 (4th of the series), it seemed as a new Indians baseball team came out of the locker-room as they came out in the first inning and the bats were on fire, nothing the Hurricanes pitcher Jason Tate threw got by an Indians batter.

In the first inning, the Indians would score 7-runs and all earned. I was pleasantly the way the Indians came out in game 4 of the series (second of the double-header) with a bounce in their step after getting shelled in game 3 (first of double-header).

Sophomore Breylon Emory (North Augusta) got the start on the mound and went 5.1 innings, giving up 6-hits, 6-runs, 5- earned, he walked 4-batters, earned 6-strike-outs, while facing 21 batters.

After coming out after 5.1 innings, freshman Ryan Rowe (Newberry, SC) came into the game pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 1-hit, 1-run, 1-earned run, 1-walk, 1-strike-out, while facing 6-batters.

The Indians were hot at the plate in game 4 and the two Indians lead the way, sophomore Oliver Santos (Santo Domingo, DR) was 4-5 with 3-RBI's and freshman Bryan Parsons (Spartanburg,SC) 4-5, 2-RBI's.

Also hot at the plate for the Indians:

Freshman-Jayvon Sanders (Rembert, SC) 3-4, with a home-run and 3-RBI's.

Sophomore-Branfy Arias(Santo Domingo, DR) 3-4, 2-stolen bases-Total for season (21-24)

Freshman-Korey Ahrens (Newberry,SC) 2-3, 2-RBI's

Sophomore-Tracey Asbill (Leesville, SC) 2-5, 1-RBI

GAME 4- SCORE BY INNINGS:

I have to mention that sophomore Tracy Asbill was the hottest bat for the Indians this weekend as he went 8-12 hitting .667 with 5-RBI's and a home-run. In game 1, he only had 1-at bat.

The Indians record now stands at 23-21 and 13-11.

Louisburg College now sits at 16-12 overall, I do not have their Region X record.

Games 3 and 4 of weekend series with Louisburg College set to start at 12:00 in Allendale, SC

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team split today with Louisburg College today, losing game 1 but rebounding to win game 2.

The Indians will look to take the series by winning games 3 and 4 set to start at 12:00 on Saturday afternoon.

The Indians baseball team is now 22-20 overall and 12-10 in Region X.

Louisburg College now appears to be 15-11 overall, I don't have a Region X record for them.

If you are worried about the weather for Allendale, SC for Saturday, it looks as though we should have clear skies again as the weather coming tonight should be out of the area by 5:00 am tonight.

Indians win game 2 against Louisburg College 4-1

The Indians have won game 2 against Louisburg College in Allendale, SC this afternoon.

On the mound for the Indians, Ali Williams 5-4 on the season pitched a complete game and picked up the win.

The final score was 4-1.

Tracy Asbill went 3-3 for the Indians and hit a home-run.

I will further update the blog as soon as I get home with better stats.

**Well, it seems that coach Wicker didn't have the stats available after the game, we had a recruit he had to attend to. Once I get on campus in the morning, I will try and get the stats prior to the game.**

Indians baseball drops game 1 against Louisburg

The USC Salkehatchie men's baseball team have lost in game 1 to Louisburg College by a final 11-3.

The Indians were leading 3-2 until a Louisburg Collge batter hit a 3-run homer to open the flood gates in the top of 5th.

Mark Henderson took the loss for the Indians, he is now 4-4 on the season.

We have just started game 2. We are in the top of the 1st with 2-outs.

USC Salkehatchie men's head soccer coach Bill Glass,excited as he prepares to sign 5 recruits from Jacksonville, Florida on Monday night

The USC Salkehatchie men's and women's head soccer coach Bill Glass announced today that he will be signing 5-recruits from Jacksonville, Florida on Monday, for the men's soccer team.

Coach Glass is set to travel to Jacksonville, Florida for a ceremony which will take place around 6 pm on Monday night in Jacksonville, Florida.

"I am very excited to have these five young men become a part of the USC Salkehatchie soccer family. When I was at my previous school, I recruited a lot of my best players from the Jacksonville, Florida area. This group of young men play for the Jaguars soccer club and once the fans see how well they play, they will be very impressed," said Indians head coach Bill Glass.

The Jaguars soccer club is one of the most elite traveling soccer clubs in the state of Florida and they are even know nationally.

The Jacksonville Jaguars Soccer Club was founded in 1979. The club was formed to selet 18 youth soccer players to participate in a two-week summer playing tour of Holland and England.

Lady Indians set to travel to Southeastern Community College tomorrow

The Lady Indians are ready for action in Whiteville, North Carolina against Southeastern Community College on Saturday.

The Lady Indians won two great games on Wednesday against USC Sumter in Allendale, SC.

The Lady Rams from Whiteville, North Carolina are currently 0-12 on the season. To be fair to the Lady Rams, this is their first full season competing in the NJCAA. According to the NJCAA official website, it looks like they played 4-games in the spring of 2008 and went 0-4.

NOTICE:

I need to make a correction to something I posted on the blog after the USC Sumter game. I had Michelle Turner listed as the only player in USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians softball-school history to hit a grand slam. In fact, Cea Knox hit one earlier this season in Aiken, South Carolina.

I want to personally apologize to Cea Knox and her family and friends for this mistake. I said in an earlier post, I am only human and I have to rely on information on past seasons from the coaches and community that were here during the previous years. So, with that said Michelle Turner has 2-grand slams in her career and Cea Knox has 1.

Baseball set to start at 3pm for double-header against Louisburg College in Allendale, SC

I wanted to let all the fans planning on attending today's USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball games in Allendale, SC today, the weather is wonderful!!

We have a 30% chance of late afternoon showers but right now, there is not a cloud in the sky and we are ready for a wonderful day of baseball.

The Indians enter today's double-header with a record of 21-19 overall and 11-9 in Region X play.

According to the Louisburg athletic website, they are 14-10 overall, I am unsure of their Region X record.

I will update the blog either during the game or immediately following each game.

Indians baseball set for Friday and Saturday weekend series

The USC Salkehatchie baseball program is getting set to take on Louisburg College this weekend in Allendale, South Carolina.

The Indians normally play their weekend series on Saturday's and Sunday's but since this Sunday is Easter, the Indians will get their games in on Friday and Saturday.

Friday's double-header starts at 3:00 pm, the bad news for the Indians, the weatherman is calling for a 30% chance of showers on Friday afternoon.

The USC Salkehatchie Indians will face Louisburg College from Louisburg, North Carolina , they have an overall record of 14-10 according to their athletic website.

The USC Salkehatchie Indians enter the weekend series with a 21-19 overall record and 11-9 Region X record.
