USC Salkehatchie basketball lands transfer for next season~


Mitchell Dixon, a 6’3 combo guard from Johnson C. Smith University, requested to be released from his scholarship to play one season at USC-Salkehatchie under the tutelage of Coach Travis Garrett.

Dixon, a redshirt freshman, played a reserve role, as a point guard and shooting guard, with the Golden Bulls, of the Central Collegiate Athletic Association. (CIAA).

Dixon played high school basketball at West Ashley High School under Coach James Dupree. A two year starter (2006-2008), he averaged 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists as a senior for the Wildcats. He made the All-Region and Post & Courier All Low country Teams. Dixon scored a season high 35 points versus Fort Dorchester in the 2007 Wildcat Invitational Tip Off Tournament. He also chipped in 31 points in a non conference match up in a win over North Charleston. He was also recognized on the Honorable Mention All State Team as a senior. Dixon helped lead the Wildcats to two playoff quarterfinal appearances and region runner up finishes. In the 2008 playoffs, he scored the team’s final 7 points including a steal and game winning three pointer in the closing moments in a 63-61 win over Ridge View. He averaged 10 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists as a junior.

Dixon played AAU basketball for the Charleston CAGERS and led the program to a number seven national ranking according to the United States Basketball Association. He made the Peach State Invitational All Tournament Team, an affiliate basketball showcase of Peach Jam in Augusta, Georgia, in July 2007. He also played AAU basketball for the Columbia Northeast Hurricanes.

Dixon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dixon Jr. of Walterboro.
