The USC Salkehatchie Indians men's basketball team jumped out to a fast start against Brevard CC in the Tallahassee CC Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Classic on Thanksgiving day. The Indians went on a 18-4 run to start the game but Brevard CC. finished first half on 15-0 run and 34-9 overall.
Brevard CC lead at the half, 38, 27.
USC Salkehatchie head coach Travis Garrett said of the first half, "We started fast and it looked as though we could control the game. However, Brevard CC was able to get back in the game because of turnovers, something we have to work on."
In the second half, the woes would continue for the Indians, Brevard CC would put 49 on the board in the half. The Indians would respond with 45 of their own but it was too little too late.
The final score was Brevard CC 87, USC Salkehatchie 72.
"We have committed over 200 plus turnovers this season. If you look at the points teams are getting off turnovers, that is the difference. We can't expect to have 20 plus turnovers per game and expect to win. We have to have one player on this team take the leadership role and make it his team, so far that hasn't happened. To win games, you have to want to win and right now, I don't feel we want to win. I can assure fans that this week we are going to shake things up and try a new lineup, I am going to find five players that want to play."
The Indians are now 1-9 on the young season, Brevard CC improves to 4-4.
