The USC Salkehatchie women’s soccer team beat USC Lancaster 6-1 on Saturday after watching the Salkehatchie men’s soccer team take Wake Technical Community College into overtime before falling 2-1.
In the women’s match for USC Salkehatchie, Elisa Routt of Warner Robins Georgia led the scoring with two goals, Desiree Wickham of East Marathon New York, Emily Thompson of Lexington, Yahimar Lai of Beaufort and Lindsay Jones of Hampton each had one goal in the victory. During the match, Maggie Moore of Gadsden and Emily Thompson shared the goaltending responsibilities.
In the USC Salkehatchie men's game, Ryan Wallace of McDonough, GA scored the lone goal for the Indians on a penalty kick to equalize the score and force overtime. Richarde Anderson of Warrenville played goalie for USC Salkehatchie the entire game.
On September 13 both teams were mauled by Louisburg College, the men going down 8-0 and the women getting hammered 9-0.
The men came back and played well against Middle Georgia College in Cochran on September 18 losing by a score of 4-1. Ryan Dickson of Portadown, Northern Ireland gave the Indians their only goal against Middle Georgia on a penalty kick.
On Monday the women’s team played host to South Georgia College which was stacked with women’s soccer players from the island of Trinidad & Tobago. The visitors won by a score of 8-0. It was a great match for the lady Indians to play against so many talented players, most of the USC Salkehatchie women soccer players are freshman.
