Region X softball banquet held tonight, several Lady Indians find their way to all-region teams, one gets distinguished academic all american

The first ever Region X softball athletic banquet was held tonight in Hartsville, South Carolina at Byerly Park.

Byerly Park has a wonderful new gym and was a gracious host for the event.

The banquet kicked off with opening remarks Hartsville, South Carolina mayor Micheal S. Holt as he explained to those in attendance that today was his birthday, the room broke out into signing the famous Happy Birthday song.

Next Jayme Durand (Aiken Technical College-Head Coach) stood up and welcomed everyone to tonight's event. I must add, she did a wonderful job in making such a wonderful program for all the Region X ladies to enjoy their night in the sun.

Then Pitt Community College Head Coach Junior Bailey thanked everyone for attending the first ever banquet, naming several people that had helped make the event such a huge success, including Jayme Durand whom coordinated the event from Aiken, South Carolina; often by telephone.

The invocation was given by Dr. Jim Schmidt from Aiken Technical College, afterwards everyone in attendance enjoyed a wonderful meal of baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and several deserts.

It then became time for the awards portion of the banquet and Spartanburg Methodist athletic director and assistant Region X director-Mark Perdue, spoke to the athletes in attendance before giving out the awards.

"In 10-20 years, you will remember this night. I know that not everyone in attendance will win an award but you are a competitor and that is something you will remember for always," said Perdue.

I am sorry but I did not get a complete list of the Region X award winners tonight but I do have the list of USC Salkehatchie award winners and have listed them below.
