Former USC Salkehatchie grad, Travis Howard (USC Aiken) Named Peach Belt Coference Baseball Player of The Week.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – USC Aiken’s Travis Howard was named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday, March 17. The honor is the first for the junior transfer from USC Salkehatchie. The Bonneau, S.C. native is the second Pacer to be named PBC Player of the Week in 2009. Senior first baseman Ken Raborn (Evans, Ga./Evans) was chosen the first PBC Player of the Week for the 2009 season on Feb. 10. Howard hit .409 with six extra-base knocks last week for the Pacers.
He collected three doubles, two home runs and a triple for the Pacers. His two home runs led to him concluding last week with a team-leading nine home runs in 2009. Howard, who finished the week with a team-best 10 RBIs, led USC Aiken to its first PBC series win of the year by hitting .429 with seven RBIs in a three-game set with Georgia Southwestern. Howard opened the series with Georgia Southwestern by acquiring a home run and a double in USC Aiken’s first game of a doubleheader with the Hurricanes last Saturday.
He ended the twinbill by picking up a double and a triple in the second game. In the series finale on Sunday, Howard drove in two and commandeered another double.
