The Lady Indians are in Hartsville, South Carolina and ready for action against Pitt Community College on Friday at 12:00 am.

It look as though if the Lady Indians defeat Pitt Community College, the will face off against Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday.

The game will be taking place at Byerly Park in Hartsville, South Carolina. If you have a free moment to go their website listed below and check out the facility please do so it is unbelievable.

The park is 93-acres of ball-parks, walking trails, football field and much more.

The Region X tournament games will be held on fields 3 and 4. Once to turn into the park, you will see the entrance gates for admission, just walk straight towards the press-box and you will see the fields.

*I SUGGEST YOU BRING A CHAIR FOR THE GAMES, THEY HAVE SOME BLEACHERS BUT THE STANDS LOOKED SMALL*

Lady Indians set to play Lady Bulldogs in game 1 of Region X tournament

The time has finally come for the Lady Indians after all the hot and sweaty practices, the hard fought games and the blood, sweat and tears. It is that time of the year to start the Region X tournament in Hartsville, South Carolina.

The Lady Indians will start their journey through the Region X tournament this Friday at 12:00 am in Hartsville, South Carolina; home of the Region X tournament this season.

This will be the first season the Region X softball committed has had an athletic banquet. I will post photographs from the athletic banquet once they are completed, plus any awards that could be won by our players.

The ballpark we are playing has wireless Internet access and we will be able to carry all the Lady Indians Region X games. The link will change each day so be sure to click on the different link on Saturday for those games.

2008-2009 USC Salkehatchie Athletic Banquet Huge Success

The USC Salkehatchie athletic department held it's annual 2008-2009 athletic banquet tonight on the west campus in Allendale, South Carolina.

About 200 people were in attendance to show their support for the Indians and all they have accomplished on the season. The USC Salkehatchie basketball team saw their 2008-2009 Region X Championship banner for the first time this evening.

The banner will be hung from the rafters in the East campus gym in Walterboro, South Carolina.

USC Salkehatchie Athletic Banquet Tonight-6:00 pm

Hello everyone!

Don't forget the annual USC Salkehatchie athletic banquet is tonight April 28th starting at 6:00 pm. The banquet this year was made available to players and parents. We are going to be unable to sell tickets at the door, so if you didn't purchase your tickets in advance, you won't be able to buy them tonight.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause some but because of the current economic situation, it was the other way to determine how many people would attend in advance.

Hope to see you out at the banquet tonight as we honor our athletes.

Sophomore Appreciation Day at USC Salkehatchie-View from USC Salkehatchie Sports Information Director

I must say that today as we announced the names of the sophomores that are getting ready to move on to other schools next season; I had a tear in my eye. I have come to love the USC Salkehatchie family but I have really come to love the young men and women that attend our university, as my own. I have stated this in several other blog posts but I would put our kids up against any in Region X, the NJCAA or the entire country. We have kids that want to achieve and I am thankful for a place like USC Salkehatchie in the state of South Carolina. I was probably like many of you before I became part of the USC Salkehatchie family, I knew that it existed but I didn’t fully understand what it meant to so many of our youth, not only in South Carolina but the entire country and beyond.

For some of our athletes if it wasn’t for USC Salkehatchie they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to continue their dream of playing a college sport. I don’t mean that they were not good enough to go to other schools but after talking to many of our athletes, USC Salkehatchie was the only one that wanted to take a chance on them. I smile every time one of our player’s sign with another school as they prepare to graduate from USC Salkehatchie. It is with each signing that I fully understand our coaches ability to evaluate talent. I know that some of our athletes will not continue to play sports after they leave us, but I know they will move on with an associate degree in hand and many will move on to a four year university to further their education.

I want to again thank you, the parent for allowing your child to attend USC Salkehatchie. It is you that believed in not only your child’s dream of playing college athletics but you believed in USC Salkehatchie and on behalf of the USC Salkehatchie athletic family, I thank you.

For some students they will have mixed feelings about leaving USC Salkehatchie as they move on to the next phase of their career but I can assure you that once they get older, the memories that they made when attending USC Salkehatchie will be lasting, some good, some bad, but this will hold true in everything they do in life.

I am just the sports information director (a part-time one at that) but I have seen your child mature over the past year, I have seen them mature not only on the field but in the classroom and on an everyday basis.

I hope today as you stood outside the fence, maybe with your camera in hand, you felt the same pride as I. For you, the student-athlete I hope you will cherish this moment forever and remember USC Salkehatchie as you move forward, I hope you will think of it as the place that gave you your shot at living out your dream.

I know that every moment at USC Salkehatchie may not have been a great experience but if you look hard and as you grow older you will see, what we told you on day one still holds true, “Start here, go anywhere”.

Lady Indians win game 2 over Stanly Community College, 5-3

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians won for the second time today as they defeated Region X foe, Stanly Community College by a final score of 5-3.

Sophomore Cea Knox (Myrtle Beach, SC) got the win for the Lady Indians in game 2, she finishes the regular season with an overall record of 12-9. She signed with NCAA Francis Marion last weekend.

The 2008-2009 edition of the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians made school history today by finishing the regular season record above .500. The Lady Indians final regular season record was 21-20 over-all and 10-6 in Region X.

It is a great accomplishment for this group of girls as USC Salkehatchie has only had it's softball program for 3-years. Coach Mitch Smith has done a great job and the entire USC Salkehatchie athletic department is super proud of him and his girls and we wish them the best as they prepare for the Region X tournament this upcoming weekend, in Hartsville, South Carolina.

Indians fall in game 4 to #18 Pitt Community College. Pitt CC earns sweep over Indians

The USC Salkehatchie men's baseball team fell for the fourth time in as many games against #18 Pitt Community college on Sunday afternoon; by a final score of 5-4

The Bulldogs lead 3-0 going into the 5th inning but with one swing of the bat by freshman Carlito Santana (Santo Domingo, D.R.) the Indians tied the game. Santana ends the regular season with 4-home runs.

#18 Pitt Community College would pick up two runs to the top of the sixth on several controversial calls, both which brought USC Salkehatchie head coach Bubba Dorman out of the dug-out.

The Indians would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the 6th but sophomore Murray Smith (Williston, SC) was thrown out at the plate trying to score.

The Indians held the Bulldogs in the top of the 7th as freshman reliever Ryan Rowe (Newberry, SC) came into the game in relief of start Mark Henderson.

In the bottom of the 7th the Indians threatened with a runner at second base and 2-outs. Sophomore Eddie Barkley (Sumter, SC) hit a shot down the left field line that looked as though it would be a walk-off home run but it went just foul. He struck out on the next pitch to end the game.

Sophomore Mark Henderson (North Charleston, SC) picked up the loss for the Indians, he ends his season with a record of 3-6.

Henderson is headed to pitch for the USC Aiken Pacers next season, the Pacers are the 2008-2009 Peach Belt conferance regular season champions this year.

The Indians finish the regular season with an over-all record of 23-29 and 13-19 in Region X.

The #18 ranked Bulldogs improved to 32-6 and 23-6 in Region X play.

The Indians out hit Pitt Community College in game 4, 10-6. It willl be interesting to see the final stats from Coach Jeff Wicker on how many hits each team had in the entire series. I would bet that the Indians out-hit the Bulldogs for the series but were unable to produce enough runs to get the job done.

The Indians have fallen in game 3 (Sunday) 4-0 against #18 Pitt Community College.

Freshman Griffin Spires (West Columbia,SC) took the loss for the Indians, he ends the season 4-7.

Lady Indians win game 1 against Stanly CC

The Lady Indians have won game 1 by a final score of 3-2.

Stanly mounted a rally in the top of the 7th, scoring one run. They left a runner on third with 1-out.

Again, the final score was Lady Indians 3, Stanly CC 2.

Lady Indians will try and go above .500 on season with sweep of Stanly Community College today.

The Lady Indians will look to end the season over .500 with two wins against Stanly Community College today in Allendale, South Carolina.

The Lady Indians come in today's contest 19-20 overall and 8-6 in Region X.

I do not have Stanly Community College's overall record but I know they only have 8-wins on the season.

Again, the Lady Indians sophomore's will be recognized prior to the start of today's game at 12:45.

Today's games will wrap up the regular season for the Lady Indians and they will travel to Hartsville, SC for the Region X tournament this upcoming weekend. Indians will look to split series with Pitt Community College today at noon

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team will look to even the series with Pitt Community College as they wrap up their regular season at home today at 12:00 (Noon).

The Indians dropped two games to#18 ranked Pitt Community College yesterday at home.

The Indians fell 3-1 in game 1 and 6-1 in game two. I look for sophomore Mark Henderson to be on the mound for the Indians in game one and in game two, it could be several of the Indians pitchers getting the nod.

The Indians enter today's contest with an overall record of 23-27 and 13-17 in Region X.

The Pitt Community College Bulldogs come in at 31-6 and 21-6 in Region X.

I hate to keep repeating myself but at 11:45 am, the Indians will be recognizing their sophomore's in a pre-game ceremony.

Also, Bar-B-Q chicken dinners will be on sale starting at 12:30 pm.

Former USC Salkehatchie Indian-Travis Howard breaks USC Aiken single season RBI record

The USC Aiken Pacers knew they were getting a great player in Travis Howard when he signed last season after his sophomore season from USC Salkehatchie.

They just didn't know how great a player he would become, Howard a junior for USC Aiken has broken the single season USC Aiken RBI record with 93 on the season. The Pacers completed their regular season schedule today with 2-wins over UNC Penbrooke, they also claimed the Peach Belt regular season championship.

Howard broke the single season RBI record previously held by Chad Jacobsen (Drafted by the Colorado Rockies, last season). The previous record held by Jacobsen was 80-RBI's.

This season Howard has been on fire, he is leading the Pacers in batting average, hitting .407 in 216 at-bats, 93-RBI's and 17 home runs.

Congratulations to the former USC Salkehatchie Indian from the entire USC Salkehatchie family!!

I will keep you updated on Travis as the Pacers prepare for the Peach Belt tournament and beyond.

The Pacers are currently ranked #7 in the NCAA Division II.

Indians Baseball Bar-B-Q tomorrow Sunday April 26th, come watch great baseball and eat some great food!!

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team will be selling Bar-B-Q Chicken dinners tomorrow starting at 12:30 pm at the USC Salkehatchie baseball field located on the West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina.

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team will play Pitt Community College from Greenville, North Carolina in games 3 and 4 of their weekend series.

The Bar-B-Q dinners are being sold to help raise money to build a new USC Salkehatchie baseball press box.

So, come out for a day of great food and great baseball!

If you can't make it to the game but would like help out the Indians with their press box, we will have to go plates.

USC Salkehatchie sophomore apperication day, Sunday April 26th 2009 in Allendale, South Carolina

The USC Salkehatchie athletic department will be recognizing our
sophomore's tomorrow prior to the start of the scheduled baseball and softball games.

The baseball sophomore's will be recognized at 11:45 am prior to their noon start time of game 1 of a double header with Pitt Community College.

The Lady Indians softball sophomore's will be recognized at 12:45 prior to their 1:00 pm start time against Stanly Community College.

All family and fans of both teams are asked to attend to show your support for these players and all the hard work they have put in while attending USC Salkehatchie.

On behalf of the USC Salkehatchie athletic department, I want to thank them in advance for all their hard work. I have personally seen the blood, sweat and tears they have put in while at USC Salkehatchie.

I want each and everyone of you to know that you will always have my respect.

Indians (Baseball) play well but fall twice to Pitt Community College

The USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team played well today but lost the first two games of their four game series with Pitt Community College

In game one, the Indians trailed 1-0 through six innings but in the top of the 7th, the Bulldogs would score 2-more runs to make the score 3-0 headed into the bottom of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, the Indians would threaten as they scored 1-run but left two on base to lose the game by a final score of 3-1.

In game one, the Indians out hit Pitt CC 7-4 but left many players on base and against a very good team like the Bulldogs that is hard to overcome.

On the mound for the Indians-sophomore Breylon Emory (North Augusta, SC) took the loss for the Indians. He ends the season with a 2-5 overall record.

For the Bulldogs, Daniel Martin (Sanford, North Carolina) got the win, he goes to 7-1 on the season.

In game two, the game was tied 1-1 going into the top of the6th, it was then the Bulldogs would score two runs on an errant throw to third baseball sophomore Oliver Santos by Indians pitcher sophomore Ali Williams. The Bulldogs would go on to score 1 more in the top of the 6th and lead 4-1 headed to the bottom of the 6th.

Sophomore Ali Williams took the loss for the Indians in game two he finishes his season with a record of 5-5.

In the top of the 7th, the Bulldogs would add 2-more runs and in the bottom of the inning, the Indians were unable to respond and the final score was Pitt CC 6, USC Salkehatchie 1.

The Indians are now 23-27 overall and 13-17 in Region X.

The #18 Bulldogs improve to 31-6 overall and 21-6 in Region X.

The Indians and Bulldogs will meet up again tomorrow for the final two games of the series, the first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 12:00 noon.

USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians at HOME this Sunday-Final home games of season

The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians softball team will be at home this Sunday for their last weekend games of the season.

The Lady Indians come into it's match-up against Stanly Community College with an over-all record of 19-20 8-6 in Region X.

I can't find any information on the Eagles over-all record or their Region X record.

Prior to the start of the game which is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm, the USC Salkehatchie Athletic Department will be honoring the Lady Indians sophomore's around 12:45.

Don't forget the USC Salkehatchie Indians baseball team will also be at home on Sunday and they will be selling Bar-B-Q chicken dinners starting around 12:00 pm and you as a Lady Indians fan are welcomed to come and join them in purchasing a dinner.

The Lady Indians are gearing up for the Region X tournament which is set to begin March 1st-3rd in Hartsville, South Carolina. Once I have game-times, I will post them to the blog.

USC Salkehatchie VS Pitt Community College (Baseball) at home this weekend!

The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie baseball team will be hosting Pitt Community College at home in Allendale, South this weekend.

The series will kick-off on Saturday (double-header) at 1:00 and the first game will be broadcast on WDOG "The Big Dog) 93.5 and over the Internet by clicking on the link below and looking on the right hand side of the main page and clicking on Salk Baseball .

They will again meet up on Sunday for another double-header, the first game on Sunday is set to start at 12:00 pm. On Sunday the Indians will be selling Bar-B-Q chicken dinners for those in attendance and the public is invited to come and get take-out dinners. Prior to Sunday's first game around 11:45, the USC Salkehatchie athletic department will be recognizing it sophomore's prior to the game.

The Indians come into this weekend's series with an over-all record of 23-25 and 13-15 in Region X.

They had a tough weekend last week against Region X rival USC Sumter in Sumter, South Carolina as they were swept in the weekend series.

Pitt Community College comes into the series ranked #18 by the NJCAA. The Bulldogs lost 3 out of 4 games against USC Sumter on April 10th-11th. Then April 18th and April 19th, the Bulldogs lost 3 of 4 against Spartanburg Methodist.

They enter this weekend's match-up with the Indians with an over-all record of 29-6 and in Region X the Bulldogs are 19-6.

The information on the Bulldogs record is according to http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=790 where they are ranked #23 in the country. The Bulldogs were ranked as high as #11 on March 30th on Perfect Game Cross Checker.

It should be a very exciting weekend of baseball in Allendale, South Carolina and this is the final weekend series for the Indians this season.

If you haven't had the chance to get out to the ballpark, I hope you will do so this weekend, the Indians have several players on their roster that have a good chance to be drafted by the MLB either this season or once they move on to their next school, either way you will witness some of the best baseball in the area.

Salk Olypmpics Going On Now!! Come on out!!

The USC Salkehatchie Student Government will be is currently hosting it's annual Salk Olympics today, it started at 11:00 am and will last until all the events are completed.

The event is being held in the grove on the USC Salkehatchie West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina.
The students are competing in tug-of-war, tricycle races, dunk tank, water balloon fights and many more games.

Free BBQ is being offered for all students that attend!
So, come out and join the fun with the SGA and Salk Olympics going on NOW!!!

USC Salkehatchie Lady Indian-Cea Knox Signs with NCAA Francis Marion- Story on National NJCAA Website-

USC Salkehatchie Lady Indian's sophomore pitcher Cea Knox officially signed with Francis Marion University (Myrtle Beach, SC) on Sunday April 19th 2009. Francis Marion is a member of the NCAA and competes in the Peach Belt Conference.
Cea has become a fixture on the mound for the Lady Indians the past two seasons, this year she has a record of 11-wins and 9-losses with an ERA of 1.79. In 20-starts, she has 95 strikeouts.
Cea has not only been a force on the mound for the Lady Indian's, at the plate through 37 games in 127 at-bats she has 42-hits and is batting .368 with 38-RBI's, 14-doubles.
The Patriots of Francis Marion was the perfect fit for Cea, "I wanted to be near home and they going there will give me that opportunity. I was recruited by them back in high school but things worked out that brought me to USC Salkehatchie. I wanted to be on a team that has a winning record year in and year out, the Patriots give me that opportunity and the chance to win a championship, said Knox.

USC Salkehatchie Freshman Symone Nettles-National NJCAA Player of Week

USC Salkehatchie freshman Symone Nettles (Lamar, South Carolina) has been named as the player of the week by the NJCAA.

Symone, hit three home runs in a row against Aiken Technical College last week. The USC-Salkehatchie sophomore went 3-for-3 with a home run at each at bat, setting her school's single game home run record. The 5'9" short stop also went 11-for-15 on the week, scoring 10 runs and driving in 13 RBI's.

Congratulations to Symone from the entire USC Salkehatchie athletic department!!

Make plans now to attend Baseball/Softball sophomore apperciation day, this Sunday April 26th

I hope that everyone is making plans to attend this weekend's baseball and softball games, both will be at home on the West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina.

Prior to each game, the sophomore's will be recognized for their contribution to their respective teams. The USC Salkehatchie athletic department will be handing out special awards to each sophomore, everyone is invited to attend.

Please make sure that you are at the game at least 15-mins prior to the start of each game as the awards will be given out at this time.

USC Salkehatchie Update from the Sports Information Department

We are drawing near the end our baseball and softball seasons, as we finish up at home this weekend.

I wanted to thank everyone for all their input throughout the season. I have been sports information director at USC Salkehatchie for a year. I know that things have been slow in getting out sometimes and we may have missed some information but the year has been a learning experience for myself.

USC Salkehatchie started it's sports program back in 1967 with a basketball team and as time passed, it was left up to the coach to get the information out to the public.

In Region X, only 2 or 3 other schools have an actual sports information director, many schools use someone that has several other jobs within the university to get the information out to the public. According to Mark Kruig the official NJCAA sports information director only around 75-100 schools in the entire NJCAA have an official sports information director.

Over the years, the athletic department has grown to five sports and our athletic director Mrs. Jane Brewer and our Dean Dr. Ann Carmichael both understood the need for a sports information department.

In the past few years, the USC Salkehatchie athletic program has grown from 1-sport (Baseball) to now, 5-sports.

We now offer as everyone knows, men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball and basketball.

In this past year, we have had to start from scratch on keeping up with records, finding older photographs (Big thanks to Marian Easterlin) and starting the new website and blog. I went to Tampa, Florida last year to the National COSIDA convention. COSIDA is the national sports information organization and by going to the national meetings, I was able to learn a lot about sports information and how to keep good records among other things that has been very valuable to me as this season.

With all that said, I am sure that we have made mistakes throughout the season but over-all it seems as things have improved, according to our recent poll. The website www.uscsalkathletics.com is updated each Friday. Dawn Rizer from our Walterboro Campus does a wonderful job in getting all the information together and making sure it gets on the official website.

We set up this blog to update fans each day about the happenings within USC Salkehatchie athletics. I have received many emails from fans and parents that have been so supportive of all the work that has been put in this season to keep you informed .

I hope to be able to offer many more things for the fans and parents of USC Salkehatchie athletics next season and I see them all or some becoming a reality. In time, you will be able to order merchandise straight from our main athletic website with many clothing items to chose from.

I also hope to have a photograph website set up next season, a website that you as a parent can go and order photo's that are taken at each game. If the plan goes through, a 5X7 photograph of your child will cost you around $2.50.

I would love to be able to broadcast more games next season for the parent's that don't live within driving distance and I see this as a reality by next season.

I am in the works of obtaining a video camera and if this happens, we may be able to video broadcast some games live, if not live we hope to be able to rebroadcast games after they are played.

So, as you can see things are on the upswing for USC Salkehatchie athletics and we are always looking for ways to keep you the fan informed.

Now on to the student-athletes here at USC Salkehatchie. As a parent of one of our athletes, you should be extremely proud of your child. I have had the pleasure of meeting every athlete we have here at the university and I can tell you this, we have a great group of young men and women here at USC Salkehatchie.

One would think that at every school, they would have at least one bad apple, I can't say that about our student-athletes and that says a lot about you the parent.

I will keep you updated as we get ready to start the Region X tournaments and we will have updates from the games this weekend, the last at home this season.

As always, if you have a question, complaint or something nice to say, my email is always open to you the fan or parent.

I hope that you will spread the word about USC Salkehatchie athletics and let other fans and parents know that we keep the blog updated daily. I have heard from parents at games, they didn't even know we had a blog.

I want fans to know that during the summer, I will be updating the blog with signings and other USC Salkehatchie athletic information. I will try to update it everyday but some days, things may be slow and we may not have much new information.

I will add for the returning players, check the blog often as the coaches will probably ask me from time to time to post information that will be valuable to you.

We will be hosting summer camps for all the youth in the area and beyond, as soon as I get the information about our camps, the information will be posted both to the blog and the official USC Salkehatchie website.

WDOG 93.5 to broadcast baseball game against Pitt Community, Saturday both locally and over internet

USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians Car Wash-Huge Success!!

The USC Lady Indians annual spring car wash was a huge success according to USC Salkehatchie head coach Mitch Smith, "We really hit it out the park with this one. I want to personally thank everyone that stopped by and supported us. It seems every time we have a car wash, everyone on campus and even people from the community come out in support of our team. It makes me feel good that the fans and faculty here around USC Salkehatchie understand the importance of these fundraisers. I want to again say thank you."

The Lady Indians are getting ready for this Sunday's games against Stanly Community in Allendale, South Carolina. On Sunday, the athletic department will have Sophomore appreciation day prior to the games.

USC Salkehatchie 2009 Commencement Exercises May 4th 7:00 pm

The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie 2009 Commencement Exercises will be held May 4th at 7:00 pm.

This year's commencement speaker will be former USC Salkehatchie/Major League baseball player, Joe Winkelsas.

Earlier this year, Winkelsas became the first inductee into the USC Salkehatchie athletic hall-of-fame.

Winkelsas played for the USC Salkehatchie Indians in the 1990's and then went on to an MLB career with the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers.

“I feel like my life has taken me in a complete circle, it will be great to return to USC Salkehatchie. I can’t wait to get back down there and look around; I hope to see some of the people that touched my life. It is such an honor to be asked to speak at a university that gave me so much. I have always had a special love for the people at Salkehatchie and no matter where baseball took me, I knew that I owed everything to the people at USC Salkehatchie and the surrounding area for helping me become the man that I am today,” said Winkelsas.

The public is cordially invited to attend.

USC Salkehatchie SGA Olympics this Friday April 24th-11:00 am

The USC Salkehatchie Student Government will be hosting it's annual Salk Olympics this Friday April 24th at 11:00 am.

The event will be held in the grove on the USC Salkehatchie West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina.

The students will be competing in tug-of-war, tricycle races, dunk tank, water balloon fights and many more games.

Free food is offered for all students that attend!

So, come out and join the fun with the SGA and Salk Olympics this Friday April 24th at 11:00 am.

Don't forget USC Salkehatchie baseball BBQ this Sunday (April 26th)

The USC Salkehatchie baseball team will be selling Bar-B-Q Chicken dinners on April 26th at 12:30 pm at the USC Salkehatchie baseball located on the West Campus in Allendale, South Carolina.
