USC Salkehatchie @ Georgia Military College
Game 1:

With the rain out of the way on a near perfect day for a Sunday afternoon double header, the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians traveled to Milledgeville, GA to take the Bulldogs of Georgia Military college.

It didn’t take long for things to get started as Georgia Military jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning after what would be the first of many costly two out errors committed by the Lady. At the end of the first inning, the score was 1 – 0 GMC.

In the top of the second the Salkehatchie Indians, tried to put together an early rally as Leigha Hite (Fr., Leesville, S.C.), recorded her first career collegiate hit as she laced the 0 – 1 pitch up the middle. Shortly after that the Indians put a second runner on base as Samantha Martin (Fr., North Charleston, S.C.) smoked the first pitch she seen in college up the middle for her first career hit. The rally was snuffed shortly after that.

In the bottom of the second the bulldogs went on the attack again as the Indians committed two more errors, leading to 3 more unearned runs and in the bottom of the fourth the bulldogs added yet another two out run to make the score 5 – 0.

The Lady Indians finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Marquita Wilson (Fr., West Columbia, S.C.) as she reached on an error and later scored off of a two out hit by Amanda Karn (So., Taylors, S.C.). By the end of the fourth inning, the Lady Bulldogs had tacked on 4 more runs to make the final score 9 – 1.

Hitters for the Lady Innings included Kandyce Ranew (Fr., Early Branch, S.C.) as she went 1 for 2 at the plate with a walk. Symone Nettles (So., Lamar, S.C.) also recorded a hit going 1 for 3. Hite, Karn, and Martin all three recorded 1 hit a piece. Karn recorded the only RBI of the day for the Indians.

Game 2:

With game one over, the Lady Indians didn’t have much time to fix things and lick their wounds as they took the field for the second game of the double header.

In the top of the second inning, the Lady Indians jumped on the board as the Lady Indians looked to be on the warpath. With one out, Samantha Martin (Fr, North Charleston, S.C.) reached on a single, followed by a walk to Dannon Reese (Fr., Aiken, S.C.). With two runners on, Alyssa Chambers (So., Goose Creek, S.C.) hit a two strike pitch up the middle scoring Martin from second and after a wild throw, Reese crossed the plate to make the score 2 – 0.

The score would remain 2 – 0 until the bottom of the third as yet another error committed by the Lady Indians came back to haunt them. With two outs and a runner on second, the Lady Indians booted to what would have been the third out of the inning, which allowed the Bulldogs to plate a run across the make the score 2 – 1.

The score would stay the same until the top of the fifth as the Indians would tack on three runs this time around as Gwenell Crawford (Fr., Yulee, FL.) would record her first career hit and first career double in one swing of the bat. After the next two batter were sat down, Symone Nettles (So., Lamar, S.C.) would smash the 0 – 1 pitch over the center field fence for her first home run of the young season to make the score 4 – 1, but the Lady Indians weren’t done yet. Marquita Wilson (Fr., West Columbia, S.C.) hammered the first pitch she saw for her first collegiate hit and would later score off a dropped fly ball by the Bulldogs to make the score 5 – 1.

After the Bulldogs plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Indians went back on the attack in the top of the sixth plating two more runs.

After Crawford reached on an error and Chambers reached on a single, Kandyce Ranew (Fr., Early Branch, S.C.), laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached first base safely. With the bases loaded, Nettles came to the plate again and came through in the clutch for the Indians sending a 1 – 1 pitch into left field for a single, scoring Crawford. Next, Wilson hit a fielder’s choice to second, but with Chambers speed, she scored the innings final run to make the score 7 – 3.

Over the next two innings, neither team could muster up any runs as the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians recorded their first win of the season. The Final Score was USC Salkehatchie 7, Georgia Military College 3.
