USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians drop one against #16 SMC, rebound to defeat Surry CC.








The USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians drew some of the toughest teams at the Aiken Technical College Mizuno Invitation this weekend in Aiken, South Carolina.



The Lady Indians have faced the #2 team in the latest NJCAA poll, perennial powerhouse Young Harris and on Saturday faced #16 ranked Spartanburg Methodist College. The bright spot for USC Salkehatchie head coach Mitch Smith is his team was in every game, "We held our own and I am proud of the way we played. If we can cut down on mistakes, we are going to have a pretty good season."



First on Saturday the Lady Indians fell to #16 SMC by a final of 8-3, freshman Amber Hiers starting her first collegiate game took the loss giving up 6-runs in 2-innings. The bright spot in the game was Kandyce Ranew hitting a double down the left field line that scored three on the hit.




In game two on Saturday, the Lady Indians took it too Surry CC by winning 9-3. Sam Martin who has pitched great for the Lady Indians all season got the win.



Leading the Lady Indians at the plate was Crystal Long, hitting a 3-run homer off the scoreboard and Amanda Karn hitting a 3-run triple.




The Lady Indian will once again face Surry CC as they head into bracket play Sunday morning at 10:00 am.
